| There is a new school the English School in Kyrenia which just opened and is initially starting with the younger children and later expanding to high school etc. recently opend in Kyrenia http://www.englishschoolkyrenia.org/ . Its located fairly close to the post office in Kyrenia I don't know what its like first hand but the papers seem to indicate it has high expectations regarding standards etc and may be worth a try. | Hi Harry, We are moving out during July/August. We have 2 boys aged 6 and 9. The will be attending the GAU school. We have a cypriot school just round the corner from our house but I had concerns regarding the language barrier, also allegedly these schools tend to focus on maths and the kids are allowed to leave school at 14 (if I have this wrong sorry). We also considered Sunny Lane but did hear a few bad things about them but I don't know if it was just a few false underhand comments. The reason we chose GAU school is that they very closely follow the English Curriculum but do it at a higher level as is done in Scotland. They have fantastic teachers who you are respected by their students (very refreshing to see). The complex and facilities available are second to none of the schools we saw. (The olympic size pool may be ready now). They also have highly qualified staff, their pe teacher performed in the Olympics several years ago. We met the head teacher Ross Marek, she is a nice person who has absolute control over her students without feeling the need to shout. (I need to learn that trick, doesn't work with my kids at home). She does as much as she can for the students to be positive happy helpful confident individuals, I couldn't ask for more for my children. The fees are EUR3000 per child, a discount is given to each child if another sibling goes to the same school. They run a bus service which takes your child to and from your house (not a bus stop), if you are not home the child returns to school where you will collect them. There is a charge for the bus. We will live in Karsiyaka so the bus cost is worth it as if I had to do the school run twice a day I think I would end up clocking up about 40 miles. Good luck with your choice. Av P.S. I only briefly read this thread do you have boys and whereabouts are you locating to. |
