There is one still open in Çatalköy (private).

Speaking to a teacher, apparently it was each individuals school choice as to whether to close. She did mention that some schools are 'considering' cancelling the February holiday because of this 2 week that most of the schools are closed for now ??

I wonder if the teachers will be paid for this 2 weeks that the schools are closed now. Hope so, as no reduction on the school fees for this month!

I was under the impression that all schools have been told they have to shut even if they are private, now I am confused as if this is not the case why have other schools chosen to shut. I feel sorry for working parents, what are they meant to do, I am fortunate my husband is not working and can look after my daughter but if he wasn't here I would be stuck.

As the Proprietor of Sunny Lane School I can confirm that we were contacted by Alev at the Ministry at 4.30pm on Wednesday to inform us that the Council of Ministers had made a decision that ALL schools in the TRNC had to close, private and state school. We are one of the very few schools who did not have any cases of swine flu and even though we have taken precautions by arranging for our school to be sprayed every Friday by the Belediye and special disinfecting solutions put in all classrooms, we were told that we still had to close. However they did say that if we remained open and we had a swine flu outbreak we would be shut down for not following Ministerial advice, not a risk we were prepared to take.

We have arranged for work packs to be sent home to all our students. We asked the Ministry if we could apply for only a 1 week break in February and the answer was a clear no!

For information, we are of course still paying our staff during the closure.

I don't understand this, if the Department of Education has ordered all private schools to close the Government should financially compensate these institutions for the reimbursement of fees and teachers salaries.
