Tony ( the liar ) Blair will not be the new EU President. What great news

The EU, noted for the stupid decisions it normally makes ,yesterday elected it's first President and had the sense not to vote for Blair.

A Belgian , Herman Van Rumpuy was elected President and Cathy Ashton from the UK elected as his deputy.

You think so, I dont like Blair but who the feck is herman van rimpuy lol and cathy ashton, the only reason these were picked is because angela merkel and the idiot frenchman didnt want to be upstaged, and the choosing was all done behind closed doors..very democratic I must say lol.

Yesterday was another important day in the EU, inevitable on its way to become the United States of Europe. Where conflicts are debated and voted about - and not fought on the battlefield. We and our children's children will benefit of peace.

P.S. I really admire the way the UK has shown its (or is it 'her'?) disgust of the EU by seriously trying to grab the Presidency... Wow, Albion and politics...

Perhaps as a trained economist the EU are hoping he will get them out of the financial mess we are all in!

Or if you really want to read more into his appointment:

Van Rompuy is a strong opponent of Turkey joining the European Union. In 2004, he stated "Turkey is not a part of Europe and will never be part of Europe. An expansion of the EU to include Turkey cannot be considered as just another expansion as in the past". He continued "The universal values which are in force in Europe, and which are fundamental values of Christianity, will lose vigour with the entry of a large Islamic country such as Turkey."

I am not suggesting that the EU is an orginisation that practices democracy and I am an ardent opponent to the EU but in this instance I applaud their rejection of Blair.

I would also, in my humble opinion, add that there are, at present, no politicians in the UK who should get the job.

So Van Rumpuy who sounds like a character from 'allo 'allo, and the former head of Hertfordshire health services a quango that I can confirm was a disaster under her tutelage are the two most important people in eussr.

I for one would not like Turkey to join those batch of hypocrites and anyway, its too much a a straight jacket to wear. If Turkey ever joins EU, it will bring sorrow and agony to both sides. Let us be realistic.

I agree, Turkey has too much to lose by joining the EU and everything to gain by staying out of this corrupt organisation. It is a push by America to get Turkey into the EU and god knows what they have promised Turkey in return.

Being run from Europe presumably means that there is no need for our houses of parliament in the UK. That'll be a great saving.

I got it!

Department for education and skills (Flagship project; sure start)

couple that with CND, Business in the community, (battling inequality) National council for one parent families, Herts health authority, School governess, (Sorry, person) and leader of the Lords. (what was that about inequality?)

2005 Stonewall politician of the year??

Very impressive credentials for the second most powerful person in Europe. (Forgetting Angela Merkel and Nicholas Sarkozy)

Actually coachie I'd like to see the whole edifice disbanded.

The lack of democratic principles it embodies make Scottish labour politics seem honest.

Here we have the UK trying to impose democracy on Afghanistan whilst we have the EU which is probably one of the most un-democratic organisations in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scoop..It was ok when it was the original number, but when we came in our lot wanted to run it and every one else were against us and have not changed since. It is like all"clubs" when it it gets to big they split into their little cliques, and you can never get them to agree to anything.I see the Tory party is the only opposition party to have not agreed with the Lisbon treaty and that they have made their position clear what they intend to do if they are elected next year.Could be interesting. They took us into EU perhaps they might bring us out???
