A group of us went to Guido's for lunch yesterday and we had a fabulous time and Guido cooked us ham, eggs and chips and it was delicous, he wasn't happy making chips, well he is a chef but there were 7 very happy and very satified customers, Lilli as always the perfect host.

RE msg 2, stilluvithere: (...) Ham egg and chips eh, that would have tested Guidos cheffing capabilites (...)

=> From another thread I understand that you prefer to pay THREE Pounds for ONE prawn (after negotiating the price down from FOUR pounds, wasn't it..?). I'll laugh all the way to Guido's today! Whooooaaaah!

It's always helpful for other board members to hear prices for restaurants, so how much was ham, egg and chips?

Sounds like something out of faulty towers !, "Ah!, you dont want mayonaise, you want Proper salad cream do you?, its the way our chef smacks the bottom of the bottle and there it is , plops right on to the plate, didnt train for five years for nothing you know!" ( then smacks the child on the bonce).

I'll bet he wasnt bloody happy. GOD SAVE US!!!!

I have to agree with ustwo on this, I am sure Guidos is a fabulous place, I know that Lilli is a lovely person and does so much to help the community with her kindness but it does sometimes get a bit boring when every time someone has had a meal there it gets posted on the board. We all eat out but God forbid we should all post every time we go to our favourite place, by all means give reviews on restaurants but sometimes it does seem a little over the top.

Dutch crusader,

you missed the point, fortunately I was not paying that bill but, what I was saying, I was not happy at the price and so would not go back again.

assuming the wine was 6Tl a glass and the dessert was 10TL, that would make ham, egg and chips cost 28TL. You sure you only had 2 glasses of wine, Smithy?

jinyx - message 19 - "Directions"

The remark made by 'Suffolk' is just a bit of ongoing banter, which obviously passed you by somewhere along the line. Suffolk knows only too well where Guido's is - I know because I have eaten there with them (nice people they are, too)

Guido will probably have a fit and then cook what you want, that is the mark of a great chef.

Thanks Jeannie for providing and explanation about the "sense of humour" - We certainly had a good laugh when you see how some people get fired up over a few chips!!

I stopped at Guidos and had a glass of water in the summer. It was an ecstatic experience that I just want to share with everyone! The water was superb and it was served at just the right temperature in a lovely glass with two perfectly square ice cubes. The bottle it came in was fabulous, it glinted in the sunlight. I sat in my perfectly shaped chair, which was not too hard, not too soft, not too low, not too high, and gazed at the amazing ambience from this basic concrete shell with a large window at the front overlooking the main road and I thought to myself, I must let the world know about this place and it's water. My urine has been crystal clear ever since, not that I'm taking the pi** or anything.
