I have been told that there is a chance your visa could be stamped with only 4 or 7 days on it rather than the 90 days. We came back from the uk early November and then to Nicosia last week, I would like to go again this week to do some Christmas shopping (before Bayram) but worried now that when we cross back over the border our visa may only be stamped for this short period. We intend to apply for temporary residency soon, but in the meantime any advise on this would be much appreciated.

Where does this 4/10/30/90 days appear please? We are slowly working up to applying for permanent residency but still 3 stamps away from applying. In all the times we have crossed into the South we have just had a stamp put on the bit of paper (in black) and then on the way back we get another one (in red) somewhere else on the same bit of paper. Have never had/seen anything else but the stamps, nothing written on or by them, so where do they put the days bit then please? And more to the point - why? Forgot to say we have never been out overnight yet.

Waddo they normally only write the number of days on the stamp if you do not have temporary residency. If you do, then it is just the stamp. That is how it has always worked for me anyway.

Could I suggest if you go south and then get only 7 days stamp (it normally happens when there is a bit of a clamp down on things) then negotiate! But remember always to do it with a smile and a gentle voice. Show a bit of anger and you have lost! It often seems that if the south has a go at being funny (no dog food; pay import duty on items over £????; and various other things), then the north has a go to equalise. That is when differing days of stay seem to emerge. But don't be fearful. And remember that 'accidents dohappen' so you could always suggest that the wrong stmap has been used inadevertently. And yes, if you have temp residency there is no time given - unless the guy makes a mistake as has happened to me twice. But a gentle pointing out of the mistake gets it rectified. Enjoy your shopping trip!

Mick, If the person at the border control point decides to limit the number of days for which your entry stamp (visa) is valid, then they write the number in the (red) entry stamp - (the BLUE stamp is the EXIT one). If you have a current 'temporary residence endorsement' in your passport, then they don't bother to write a 'time limit' in the 'entry' stamp. - That's why they flick through your passport - it's to see if you are currently 'resident' Keith.
