When driving from the UK to Cyprus the only way on to the Island at the moment is via Tasacu as all ferries into the South have been suspended.

Can anyone advise on the position if you drive over the border to the south and stay beyond the date on your visa and customs document what will happen when you leave the Island?

Friends have stayed with us and are spending Christmas and New Year in the south. Their visa runs out on the 23 December as does their customs document for the vehical.

They plan to leave the Island after visiting friends in March. A little concerned as to what will happen when they cross back over the border to catch the ferry over to Turkey.

I am sure you can get an extention for the car and visa. I suggest you go to the police station in Girne, where they will let you know if this is possible and where to go to do this.

Hi Tilly, I think you'll find the service to Limas(s)ol will start , again, in April 2010 !

So they could leave via the 'south'... As long as they have a green card for insurance, docs supporting ownership of the car, a current UK tax disc and MOT ( if necessary) they can stay in CY ( Republic of ) for up to six months without anytax / registration issues on the vehicle..

Their is no need to have visa.. but one should register if staying more than 3 months .. !

When we rode our motorbike in June over from the UK, the customs would only give us 30 days visa on the bike.

We went into customs in Lefkosia to get an extenstion, no problem, providing your UK tax covers the extra period you want to stay. You have to go to the main police station to get a print out of your so called in@outs plus a couple of 13 YTL stamps bit of running round but most helpful.

Make sure you take all car documents.
