The first CPAG demonstration took place yesterday in south Nicosia protesting at banks putting mortgages on sold properties It involved over 100 property "owners" who are still without title deeds and some of whom have discovered that they risk losing their homes because of mortgages taken out by the builders. They were mainly British, but also included Russians and Greek Cypriots. The demonstration passed off without incident. More demonstrations outside banks are planned. http://www.cyprus-mail.com/news/main.php?id=49049&cat_id=1 Do you think we would be allowed to do that in the north, even though it's the same situation there concerning bank mortgages and the non-release of title deeds?

I honestly don't know M6. HBPG were told that foreigners couldn't protest but this sounds preposterous - so it may be true. Mind you, I don't fancy breathing tear gas like the union protesters did.

According to 'Elko' you can protest all you want: - "Demonstrations by foreigners are not unlawful, they are simply subject to prior permission. So if prior permission is granted it is not unlawful. ismet" http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/16535.asp
