as, if it aligns itself with other powerful neighbours it would probably be more of a threat to EU trade etc than if it was included, and just think of the size of its army!! Am not taking Cyprus in any form into consideration at this point. Just asking! And what was that message from the Facebook TC's about Cyprus definitely voting against Turkey anyway. from: Papachina (not me!)

In what respect should the size of Turkeys army be of concern to EU if Turkey is not allowed in.

Well I noticed when living there that they are self-sufficient in food and seem to have a gift for producing attractive and reasonable articles. I know Istanbul is not the whole scene of Turkey but it is vibrant and I have seen amazing improvements in the last 20 years. With or without E.U they will do well.

They are a very powerful nation that are wanted by both the E.U. and the middle east for obvious reasons, Paul.

there is an industry on cyprus 44 devoted to turkey's hypothetical membership of the eu, strange but true british hopes and mark 6m's dreams apart, there's precious little prospect of it in any forseeable future ...for reasons I am just too weary to reiterate yet again but yes, there is lingering uncertainty about turkey eventually throwing its toys out of the pram: expect an ever-closer alignmement with west-disenchanted russia, and america-hating iran as well but a close alliance with neighbouring arab countries of the middle east? I doubt it because many of these countries are ruled by a fragile elite, are far less european than turkey, and many are comparitvely undeveloped, though are indeed a potential market for the future but an angry and resentful turkey may not willingly engage in any more cyprus-related euro-gameplay you have been warned
