Just curious on peoples views on the current tarrif for 3 day stay at Merit Hotel this Xmas.

I remember it being 80 pound per couple for the whlole deal, then 120 pounds now it is asking 100 pound per night per double room, so 300 pounds for 2 people for the 3 days.

This includes food and drink and entertainment.

Is it a good deal or not???????

I last went 3 years ago, the free bar closed at 11pm, they had 1 member of barstaff on(who refused to serve more than one drink at a time- 45 mins queue) and the 'entertainment' laid on for the mainly britsh ex-pat clientele was hijacked by some Turkish children and not an eyelid was battered.

Depends what you are looking for.

stay at home.make ur own bed. get 10 of your friends to all put 200 pounds in the kitty and speak to the owner of your favorite restaurant and see what he can do for you for 3 days with 2 grand in your pocket, plus a driver to take you all back and forth for 3 days.

The hotels are a rip off.drinks included.yeahh,if you can get served by the lazy or go slow staff who will of course been pre warned to serve not so quickly!!

I think its pretty good deal if you prefer to let someone else do all the work.

PIpie

If you went alone it would cost you 75 pounds a night, be better booking a double room and hope one gets lucky by the end of the evening LOL that was definitely only a joke.

I suppose it is individual choice, good idea about all putting into a kitty and booking a venue....

You pays your money and takes your choice! I havbe heard fab reports of the Merit and other hotels which have their devotees year after year. But no good to folks like me, who doesn't drink, hates noise, dislikes discos and any live entertainment other than the London Symphony Orchestra! Oh yes, and who LOVES good conversation as well as good healthy food.

If the Merit is worth it for you - then go. If you can afford it, no problem.

But I didn't realise it had increased in price so heavily.

I seem to remember the Merit being sold out for the Xmas package by the end of October year before last, so they obviously spotted a niche, and upped the price, good luck to the if people pay it, personally not my thing, much prefer power cuts and sugar sarnies round a candle LOL.

'Girl' after my own heart, Mindy, that's what you are! The right atmosphere is different for everyone, but your idea of power cuts and sugar sarnies is real Dickens stuff! And maybe wherever you are, and whatever makes you happy, the cry of Tiny Tim should echo around - 'God Bless us, everyone!

The sugar sarnies is more in line with 'a crust of bread with friends is better than a feast with enemies;

Not sure people who go to Merit are enemies, but the package cost is an enemy of my bank balance!

When was the last time any off you went on a full night out in the UK?

Trust me you can esay spend £200 for a short taxi, half dozen beers and a dirty kebab plus a short taxi back home any day of the week!

Maybe those in U.K can afford it - why do you think we are living out here? And just because we are ex pats doesn't mean that the prices have to be put up to U.K prices - they should be a fair reflection of the economy. So, comparisons are odious.

Back in the good old days some of us could afford taxis and restaurants, and business lunches and, and, and, but those days are long gone.

This is Cyprus, which has doubled or even trebled its prices in the last 5 years. Dare I suggest one of the reasons is because the Brits kept saying 'It is so cheap.

Oh and by the way, I came here form an even cheaper place to live, so comparisons with U.K are definitely odious.

But whoever you are, spend what you wish and have a fab Christmas - surely that is the bottom line.
