Hi there everyone, just joined the forum from the U.K. as we have family in the Tatlisu area. However, we are thinking of putting on a Northern Soul Week or Week-ender sometime in Oct or Nov of 2010? we have been out & looked at 1 or 2 possible venues in the area between Kyrenia & Tatlisu, but would appreciate any ideas that you may have, as you will know the places better than me. The venue will need to have a good dancefloor & be of a resonable size, as that's what Northern Soul is all about!! The function would be across the board Northern Soul & at present, we are attempting to canvas local interest in the U.K. to see if it's a viable option & obviously wanted to know the views , or any interest from those of you living out in Northern Cyprus? Please feel free to respond to this thread with any ideas or comments that you may have. Many Thanks, John Mc.

hello corby john If you want to keep it east of kyrenia i think no1 doyen has the best suggestion. Also there is a place called Vogue not for from there which seems a big place but i aint got a clue if they have a dancefloor. You could always try stevies bar or the moulos, and you would only need to print about 50 tickets !!! I have emailed you john tom

What are your favourite 3 Northern Soul Tracks? Mine are :- Open the door to your heart - DARRELL BANKS You Don't Want Me No More - MAJOR LANCE You Didn't Say A Word - YVONNE BAKER Who were you favourite live artists :- Mine were Junior Walker at the Torch, & JJ Barnes and Major Lance at the Queens Hall in Leeds. Keep the faith... Max... PS Northern Soul is alive and well in TRNC, my radio show every Wednesday at 6pm on Radio Ada (96.3FM) Tonight I'm featuring OTIS REDDING along with loads of Northern Soul Tracks. Oh and finally the Torch at Tunstall brings back my favourite memories of the music.

max, well done on the show tonight, and by chance you kicked off with a favourite of a friend of mine "heaven must have sent you" by the the elgins who, sadly died last year and it was played at his funeral, so brought back some good, and some sad memories. Followed by "theres a ghost in my house", by R dean taylor, who I saw in blackburn mecca in 1975. He had a beautiful 12 string steel guitar slung across his back and only played it once when singing "indiana wants me".... good memories!. Do you recall an artiste called tommy Hunt? I think he had a hit with a song called " loving on the losing side", again seen him in the blackburn mecca, he was known in the northern soul scene more than anything. Your featured artist tonight Otis reading was fantastic, and it makes you wonder what gems he would have created should he have lived past the very young age of 26, good choice!. Speak to you soon James

Thanks for those nice comments Sagsy & James. It's comforting to know that someone listens in on a Wednesday. Shortly I'll be putting out a weekly show on Bayrack Radio. The shows will be recorded (unlike ADA which is live) and asked me what day/time that I'd like to show to go out. Any suggestions? Oilman, I'm sure that we would have met somewhere on the way. I used to go to the Torch, then early days at Wigan, Blackpool Mecca on a few occasions up in the Highlander and Winter Gardens in Cleethorpes. Local clubs I went to were the Central in Leeds. Sold all my records (sic) in 1984 for a song. Big Regret. I have over 1000 tracks on CD's now so although not valuable they bring back wonderful memories and of course they are more practible. Those who turn their nose up at Northern Soul simply have no idea of the diverse range of soul music that these clubs brought to the UK shores. It's still alive and kicking, well supported up and down the UK and even here in TRNC.
