china garden is one of my favourite restaurants. I think the portion sizes are good and the meal is good value for money. I would highly recommend it.

Sorry but it is just awful, probably one of the worst chinese we have ever had, the only one that comes close to being any good is Dragon and that is not that good. China House is bland and dull, 8 different dishes all on the table in about 3 mins, no way cocked fresh, we were in and out in about 45mins hardly a night out1 This place is really crying out for a good chinese or two.

We have been to The China Garden several times and never had a bad meal. The place is clean, the staff friendly and efficient and the prices reasonable. What more could you ask for?

Which is the China Garden? Is it the one on the Karakum/Catalkoy road where Le Jardin used to be? If so, we are with islandgirl mag 4, no we would never go back there again and that is after we gave it 2 chances! It was without a doubt the worse Chinese meal we had the experience of having here.

message 6 yes that is china garden - ex le jardin. Have been a few times and have no cause for complaint - the food is reasonably priced, and ok you might get better chinese or cantonese elsewhere - particularly in UK but you would pay at least double. Tariq is always very friendly and welcoming, but horses for courses I guess (not literally......they don't serve horse meat as far as I am aware - joke, before anyone rips my head off).......Cheap(ish) and cheerful.......but depends what you are looking for.

I've been a few times but never rush back. Never had a very bad meal but nothung memorable. The China House (west side before Karaoglanoglu) is okay over expensive for Chinese I reckon. I gather it's improved since it changed hands. The takeway at Karakum (rocks hotel run) is okay but the menu is too limited. The ribs are a joke - miniscule portion. I've never been to the Rock Hotel chinese.

We have been to China Garden once, did not like much - Dragons at Rocks Hotel is overly expensive and not as good as Chinese House. As far as I know Chinese House has always been owned by the same people, never changed hands. At times, they make changes in their menus but it is the best Chinese restaurant in town ( for us ) good value for money. Ebru

msg. 11. Ebru, I was told that the Chinese House had changed hands a couple of years ago & improved but this was just hearsay so likely to be wrong. I last went 5 yrs ago in the winter & it was good for 2 people. I previously went in a large group (16) when we paid according to number in the group & we didn't get enough to eat. Dishes were running out before everyone had had some & nobody was being greedy. They were not replenished. It's another example of another one of my pet hate in Cyprus restaurants, inconsistency. Mr Chuns in Kyrenia now closed. That got worse & worse. The Laughing Buddha on the Lefkosa road. Again only been once back in 2002 & very expensive night. Food not memorable. Is there a consistently good, chinese restaurant in North Cyprus that doesn't break the bank? Sadly, it would seem not.

Hi Scruff, I am here for 5 years myself and my husband 15 years now - he says Chinese House was the only Chinese Restaurant in Kyrenia then, still with the same owners ( just fyi), maybe they changed the chef or something but I do agree with you that it is always the same story here, non-consistency - not necessarily at Chinese House as it always been same to us, maybe because we always go there 2 of us and the service is plenty for 2. Mr Chun is still open on Alsancak road, when it first opened at Bellapais road it was promising but gone down quickly.

My fav is The Dragon at the Rocks, its not run by the Rocks, it run by Jemal bey and he is a seasoned restaurateur who was previously had the a chinese in a top Istanbul hotel( and has a Chinese wife.) Its certainly not cheap but in my opinion is the best here by far, have always had a great meal and evening there. They also run The takeaway next to lemar karakum and i have found the food excellent and great value, cant comment on the ribs tho, my fav is beef noodles and there is enough for two and i just love the boxes they serve in, dont ask why , just do !!

message 9. I'm not a whinger. I'm just giving my opinion as you are yours. You are entitled to your opinion & me to mine. It seems that not everyone likes China Garden's Chinese food., it's not just me. I know Tariq well & Mo. even better & for 15 years. I have heard that the Dragon at the rocks is much better but I have not been so I can't comment. I do have friends though who went to China Garden when it first opened, never to return. We were with them & they did have issues with their meal. They've been to the Rocks & thought it was superb & far better than China Garden. Perhaps they are whingers too?

Liz - I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese by the Grumpy Grouse has closed - I can't remember the last time I saw a customer in there! Only went there once, some years ago, and we weren't impressed at all. Have a good trip next week. J xx

The chinese over there is over priced and horrible, I wouldnt go to any of them ever again and the take away by Lemar at Karakum is the worst ever, that man should be charged with theft for his prices, the sweet and sour chicken is packed with carrots and onions and about 6/7 tiny chicken bits, ripp off big style.
