How many people know that from tomorrow {Dec 4th} coinage with the word "new" on is no longer legal currency , banks will change it however.

Do you know how long the banks are going to change them?

Hi Lilli

Well according to Supreme Supermarket, it's just the notes that will be out of date. They took our 12 TL worth of assorted small change with Yeni on it though. Seems like even the TCs don't know the full story. Mind you living in Cyprus, I'm used to this total lack of correct information.

BTW, I'm sure Supreme have got it wrong, because it wouldn't make sense for the notes to be very shortly, invalid & not the coinage too.

Hi Scruff. I had a rep from Turk Bank into day, she told me that the directive they had been given was coins from tomorrow and notes maybe next week. Just wish they all knew whats correct xx

Serious question from whence did this info come? If it is notes that will cause a HUGE headache. Coins are another matter cos one can hardly ever get hold of them. 'Im downstairs gets furious that he is forever charged just those few kouros more cos the supermarkets never have small change.

But I would be very interested in hearing about notes, cos it means I will have to dig up the floorboards and take an armoured car to the bank to get them changed.

Last time the currency changed from Millions to Yeni TL notes were valid until the end of the year & no probs. changing in the New year at Banks. I thought the period was quite drawn out on that occasion. By the time they became obsolete, most notes had been withdrawn anyway. The real problem came for anyone in the UK. who only visited once a year, say in the summer. There was such a shortage of small change then, that it wasn't really a problem.

I have still never seen a 1 kurus coin & only had 5 kurus coins today. We had 12 TL a small change when we checked. A lot of Yeni 1 TL coins only received last night. I wasn't going to chuck £5 down the drain & they've gone now.
