Dusterbruce, I had heard its closure was due to a possible mudslide after substantial rain about 5 years ago. Would that be a possibilty? Have you any idea as to whether it was actually an operational mill. If so, it would rely on the running water. There are houses built in the gorge behind it. I would have thought if there still remained a risk these would not have been constructed. Your thoughts?

There was indeed a massive landslide about 6 years ago+ when we had really bad rain much worse than we have had since. The owners were lucky to get out alive as the mud was 5ft deep in some areas inside. It was a lovely venue and lovely owners. Remember many occassions when we all piled into the back of an open truck for a lift home after too many efes. Cant remember it as a working mill though in the 10 years I have been here. Steve

Winter 2003/4 was the wettest since the TRNC came into exsistence so it makes sense about the mud slide, although not living that side I don't remember it. I've never seen rain like it. It rained all winter & once for 3 days & nights non-stop. I thought it would never stop. I'm surprised our house didn't float away. We had damp patches on the inside of the walls. Winter 2002/3 wasn't much better. Once you see the flooding here you can understand the Mediterannean winter climate far better. Some of you still have that to come.

First visited the restaurant about 15 years ago, lovely location but never did a 'roaring trade'. It closed and then re-opened with new owners, but subsequently closed up a little while after. I can't understand that there was a mud-slide as we had a look round last year and again this October and you wouldn't know that something like that happened and my husband had a real nosey round.

Not only did the mill get severely damaged but the road to it was also washed away. It took a long time for the area to be repaired again. I remember a lovely piano inside that was covered over in mud. The land above that came down was purchased by an english person not long before it happened, that's life I suppose.

The Old Mill, Olde Milos is owned by EVKAF and can be rented through them, the previous owner/manager is now runing the Cyprus Queen Bar Alsancak, this became aparent when the paper napkins used at the Cyprus Queen have the Olde Milos logo and contact details printed on them, I think it would be an excellent spot and fantastic tourism opportunity for the village, however funds for the rent, renovation and equipement required to make it operational and successful are hard to equate.

Corinium The Old Mill, locally known as Olde Milos is at the top end of the one way system in Alsancak. Where the road loops around and comes back down again.
