I would like to have roast rib of beef for Christmas dinner this year. If anybody has bought this here can you please let me know the best butcher to buy from.

Haven't asked him about rib of beef but have had excellent sirloin from the butcher at the Karsikaya coffee shop crossroads. He normally cuts up his own sides of beef so a rib should be no problem.

I would also like a bone in, rib of beef. My favourite cut, but have never seen it here! Let me know if you track one down (or maybe we could go beef rustling one day)!

Thanks Paul. That's my local so very good news.

Next question if I may, when would be the best time to buy the joint to ensure it is just right for Christmas day?

Normally a couple of days before you need it.

But this butcher tells me he hangs the sides for 28 days so I would suggest to call and see him and order one for collection later.

Thats good news Paul as our butcher in the turkish quater does not always get the meat we request so we have to resort to getting Argentine meat south sometimes. If this butcher is good and hangs his beef he will be nearer for us x

My favourite too. The only beef joint with any flavour IMO. I would also suggest the Ozankoy butcher too. Steve at Rumours restaurant will be able to translate for you if the staff at the butchers don't understand what you want.

I can't eat the beef and lamb over there as it just doesnt taste right, probably the feed as there is no grass to speak of, the only place to buy good beef and lamb is here in the UK :(

We buy our beef from the butcher across from the Golden lady in Alsancak, always really good.

Why does nobody here make beef sausages, as I hate the pork ones?

The problem that I can see about making beef sausages is the sky high price of beef. They would be at least 25 tl a kilo

AJ, how can you be so rude lol, the cows and sheep do not eat grass in cyprus and grass is what makes the taste, rich in beef and sweet in lamb, if they are on antibiotics then they must be healthy lol..and the herds of cattle over there all looked half starved to me, same as the dogs!

Not so sure about the cows but lambs and sheep are driven up to the mountains with the goats where I live and they not only feed on grass but herbs as well and the lamb we get out here is far superior to anything I have tasted in the UK including imports from NZ (that will wind Richard up)

Take care

AJ (on his everything local is good -everything not is bad-hat on )

What a load of rubish you spout sometimes.

A nice piece of |Locharbour hill run lamb, a saltmarsh lamb,Welsh lamb.

Certainly more tasty than the string fly blown excuses they sell here

Aberdeen Angus steak. Welsh bulls

All superiour to the old milk cows well past thier sell by dates that they try and pass off for beef!!!

The best beef here is on the South Side unfortunatley.

Hippo I suggest you read my posting again.

I have no idea about beef because I am not a beef man.

I also stated:

' the lamb we get out here is far superior to anything I have tasted in the UK.'

With emphasis on the 'I have tasted'. I think you are trying to read too much into my postings as per usual.

Must agree I went to the pork shop in Alsancak just to get a pork chop and saw he had some sirloin that looked nice and dark so bought a couple for 10 tl, my god it was the best steak I have had here in a long time, I could of cut it with feather (well almost).

Wish I had kept this too myself now, he will be sold out tomorrow.

I also bought a couple of pork chops at the pork shop! Never again paid a fortune and they were tasteless. I kept popping in for the ostrich, but I have never seen any there and its too far to keep trying!

Hi

Just another place you could try for your rib of beef is the steak house next door to Mr Pound in Girne. We have never been disappointed with with any of the meat we have got from there. They also have a separate fridge where they say how long the meat has been aged - good place as far as we are concerned
