I have to go away for a while.

Whitesocks, male, adopted ME 14 months ago,he's black with white feet

Sandie, all white, ginger ears and tail, female, adopted me a few months ago.

Both smashing pets,and good fun.

I have seen these cats and they are gorgeous, really friendly and that is something coming from me as I really don't like cats normally.

Mike,

I'll be happy to post a picture of the cats on here if you wish, just email me keithcaley@yahoo.com

But if you're only going away for a while, have you considered either getting a friend or neighbour to feed them while you're away, or asking someone to 'foster' them short-term, or placing them in a cattery - that's what we do with our five.

It seems a shame to lose such smashing pets, and disrupt their environment - and there are so many pets on here that are just abandoned by uncaring owners that we're in danger of running out of new homes

I know that you must have your reasons, and I really don't mean to 'lecture' but please do remember the commitment involved in taking on pets, and consider what is best for them...

Keith thanks for that.I'll send to you.

Could be permanent, looking at property in Turkey.I miss the hussle and bustle of Istanbul.

Thanks Chris, first time I've ever had cats, they are wonderful, but would like them to have loving owners.

If I do stay here,I'm out all day,and not fair to them

Mike you say, it's not fair to leave them all day...but to be honest, i really don't think cats mind being alone...they tend to mostly sleep anyway...i think they actually prefer being alone!

My "neighbour" kidnapped Sandie once, and gave her to a garden centre.I would not risk leaving them with her around.

Msg 10

"My "neighbour" kidnapped Sandie once, and gave her to a garden centre.I would not risk leaving them with her around."

As things have turned out you may have been better leaving her at the garden centre - Why not ask them if they'd like her back?

Maybe you could contact a pet sitter (theres a few advertising on here). You have left it a bit late to re-home if you are off on Sunday!

I am sorry Mike but I cannot get my head around your post?

Forgive me if I sound a little abrupt, but, your actions/logic/potential neglect are something that I cannot conprehend.

You have taken on two cats, 18 months ago, and they have been your pets and faithful friends in all that time. They have relied upon you to feed and water them, and in return they have given you love and affection?

In fact when you took them in from the wild, you tamed them, and now they are no longer able to return to their previous lives because of you.

Yet, you have booked a flight out on Sunday without making any appropriate arrangements for their care. They could be "home alone" to use your own comments.

How much do you really care Mike?

Enough to put an ad on this forum at the eleventh hour, in the hope someone will take them for free, knowing they compete with kittens who are more appealling and the thousands of strays.

What do you think they will do Mike?

They will starve of food, love and affection.

Are you a responsible pet owner Mike, are you really?

I am utterly utterly utterly saddened by this post, and somewhat amazed that a person could even think of leaving vulnerable creatures to their own devices without (it would seem) a care in the World!

I hope to god they will be alright. If not on your conscience be it.

I just thank god for people like Lilli/Keith/DC and other unsung heros in NC, who do their best to re-home abandoned pets.

So whilst you are gadding about around Turkey Mike enjoying yourself, I just hope you think about this post (a lot).

You take care now, because you have the mechanism/finances etc., to do that, and your destiny is in your own hands. Unfortunately your pets do not.

Very well said Tara. I'm sick to the back teeth of selfish people trying to palm off their pets when the fancy takes them. Be responsible Mike and do the right thing by your pets before you bugger off.

And finally, I just hope to have shamed you so much that you post on this forum the appropriate arrangements you have made, (in your absence) to care for your faithfull friends?

Just remember that one of life's greatest gifts is the unconditional trust and love given by a pet.

Mike - wasn't it only recently that you were asking on here where to buy catapaults because feral cats were sneaking in and taking (and I quote) "My lovely two cats'" food?

We have a cat here in UK that adopted us several years ago. We already had a cat of our own, but, really, what could we do when the cat's owner had gone on holiday and left him in the care of his father in law (who didn't, incidentally, like cats) and the poor thing finally came into our home in pain with a huge abscess on his face? He has been ours now for several years, although we lost our original cat back in June. Mike, we have met and got on well and I do appreciate things have been a bit difficult for you over the past few months, but please think very carefully about this. You cannot just abandon these poor creatures on a whim.

Regards.

London Cypriot.

No, he is going away to Turkey for 3 months.

Do you have a can opener/several cans of food you can loan to the black and whites for 3 months?

Actually Tara he's going to Dnipre for a few days (as far as I know) then to Turkey on 18th for 2 weeks on a language course. Dunno where the 3 months comes from - top of his mixed up head probably! Mike seems to do most things these days on a 'whim' don't you Mike?

Cats aren't like girlfriends/wives Mike - you can't just pick em up and drop em as you feel like it! You make arrangements for your animals first - then book flights - not the other way round!

You are my friend Mike but sometimes I despair!!!

Will you get off Lapta Mike's case....

People's circumstances change - FACT....

Message 18 and others,

You don't know peoples circumstances so try not to judge Mike too hastily, I can assure you that he has not taken this lightly. Just sometimes you HAVE TO put yourself before the animals, for your own welfare and sanity! I spoke to Mike yesterday and he is very upset over this and is trying to do the best he can under the circumstances he finds himself in.

Chris, thank YOU for your support!!My last reply about my cats, and I love them dearly.

Taraspring, how dare you assume and presume 2500miles away. You know nothing of my change in circumstances.I can only think that alcohol caused your ramblings.I await your apology.

Mike have you tried the petsitter service? They offer to come and feed your pets and it may be useful to have them cast an eye over your house too? You advertised for women stating that you were sound financially, nice villa etc - surely you could pay someone a small amount to look after these cats for a few mths? For whatever reasons you are leaving for a while - would you not feel better that you have truely tied up loose ends so to speak?

Clearly everyone who has read the postings would want to know WHAT the "satisfactory solution" is, in light of being informed the time limit was short, and it appeared you were unable - for whatever reason, to compromise on the flight date.......

To post that abrupt valedictory cry, will only make the reader think negative thoughts - without being privy to the cats wellbeing - one obviously thinks - why the ambiguity? Why NOT put everyones mind at rest by saying where they have been re-homed.......

I don't know you, but you seem unable to take constructive criticism (you read daily of pets being abandoned in TRNC) so caring folks are desperate for that situation to cease - hence they showed their chagrin - you can't understand that?

You assume wrongly, and how dare you pick me up on my post which clearly pricked your conscience, as you have now found a "satisfactory solution" whatever that may mean?

You will be waiting a very very long time for an apology Mr.

I have a very deep well..........................................................but the cats are not there.

It is of no concern to any of you, just to say I do love my cats so much.

I have cancelled my Turkish course in Istanbul,so I can rehouse them in a loving home.

And just for a few days my neighbour will feed, look after them, and give them the love I give them.

I hope for my more insulting remarks

Mike
