Since Turckcell put ther prices up I have just been taking out the 60TL package I think 4 G. I do not download music or tv, just open one or two web pages. I mainly use my internet for cimuunication e-mails and Skype which is very important to keep in touch with uk.

Just recently my skype connections have been pointless usually in the evening. Broken conversation or not hearing each other.

I am not technically minded and wondered if it would make any difference if I paid the higher package which if it has not gone up again was 100TL. Origanally the full package was 70TL unlimited download. Now that has also been changed.

Thanks for any info. Desperate to chat with my daughters live and see them on web cam

Try ringing at another time of day when there isn't as much 'traffic' using the internet.More people use the internet on an evening, hence the drop in signal.Paying for more for a better package wont solve the problem.

Siggyyyy, I'm afraid you expect too much from your 3G Turkcell mobile connection to the Internet. It does what is promises: it makes you mobile (I use the mobile modem with a computer and a GPS in my car - it works, although with limitations because of the infrastructure in TRNC). But with (many) users in your area on line you just don't have enough bandwidth to expect an always usable Skype connection. Text via Skype: possibly. But voice and not to mention a webcam: you're lucky when it works.

A more expensive package won't help you: you only get more Gigabytes to up/download. A wireless connection is your answer. My advise (several experiences in five years): Nethouse Networks (1024 down and 512 upload speed). I use it and have no complaints. We share the connection at home - my wife watches Dutch television and at the same time I'm a heavy user on my own computer. Good luck.

Hi Siggyyyy

From where you are located - you should be getting a good signal (unless you are really north of girne), but there are a few things you can try to improve the signal:-

Go into the tools option (Network settings) and ensure you set it to 'Only UMTS' - you will have to be disconnected to do this.

Ensure your dongle is not postioned near the corner of a building, as the steel re-enforcing rods can restrict the signal. Also do not have a mobile phone or PC speakers or TV near the dongle, these can cause signal loss.

Try re-positioning the dongle until you get a good reception, i have a usb extension lead for the dongle which hangs near a window and i get a very good signal for skype.

The incresed package will not make any difference to the signal, so try the above.

Hope this helps

What greengate has put is spot on Sometimes you end up with a weak connection where you need to switch off the 3G and start again

In the UK we had a nightmare with "Three " phones who only operate on 3G network and it was the masts that were faulty i.e the only time we had problems with the signal was at home as soon as we moved into the city it was ok "Three" sorted their masts out and refunded line rental after many calls to their Mumbai call centre .

So try your laptop away from the house.

Also atmospherics wind etc seem to cause problems with signals in Cyprus
