Hi Tracy If you are moving to NC from elsewhere than the age limit is 5 years. (That is to say you have lived outside of NC previously ) If you are already resident in NC than it is 3 years.

There are many previous threads on this subject, put into search and see what others say. Best advice is don't do it!!!!! Unless you have a car that is extra special, work on a cost of between 60 and 80% to pay in tax and duties when you get it here. Then work out how much it would cost to buy a car here. Bear in mind also that the rules on import can change without warning and one day you may think it is worth while the next you can be bankrupted by the cost. There are many of stories on the forums to confirm these facts.

Hi, I drove my car here in May 2008 & entered through the North. At the time my car was 4year & 1mth old. I was told I had 11 mths to either register it here or drive it back. 11 mths because that would take it up to the max of 5 years old. If the car had of been 4years old or less I would have been given 12 mths to register. I bit the bullet & kept it here.

All the better if your car is under 5 years old. If your car would have been 10 years old you still could have brought it in, but the log book must show that you've had it 5yrs.. good luck

I brought mine in in October difficult bits were Tatiscu ferry where no one really tells you where to go or what to do but you keep getting bits of paper signed and stamped and during the 4 hours you wait to get on the ferry they check your documentation again and again and again. You and your car may not travel on the same ferry as when we did it 4ships sailed at the same time so make sure you know which ship your car is on. Get insurance here for your car before you come Steve Dickenson will help. Then when you get to Kyrenia be prepared to spend most of the morning again getting bits of paper stamped and signed we landed at 9 and finally cleared the dock at 12.(the ferry is a bit of a shock to the system). When you get here you get a month to sort it out with customs if possible get a Cypriot to go with you for this, I have been given 8mths to pay the tax and have been given an idea of what it will cost me, time now is apparently at their discretion. My car was 5yrs old had from new

I brought my car over recently. It is registered in March 2005 and I bought it in August 2008. No problem since it less than 5 years old. I went to the custom house in Lefkosa and they calculated the import duties etc. I suggest that you telephone Mr Ozner Agit in the custom department on 0542 853 0977. The import duty is calculated on engine size - see http://www.e-kktc.com/forms/printmenu.php?lan=en&id=3352 The VAT is calculated from the valuation in Glasses guide.
