Usually we listen to radio on our lap top - but for some reason we can no longer get any sound from the lap top. Skype is ok we can hear callers through the skype phone. Nothing from the lap top - even funny emails etc we cannot get any sound. Any suggestions ?????!!!!! Thanks

try the "speaker" on your toolbar (bottom righthand of screen) - Left click on the speaker - see what volume is showing... Also try clicking on "mixer" - if anything is on "0" or mute, try clicking and this could sort... Hope this helps...

Mindy, Go to Control panel - sounds and audio devices - speaker volume (at bottom of the box) and check that your speakers are noy turned down to zero. If they are, then increase the volume by moving the sliders along. If they reveret back to zero then check the box "restore defaults". This should do the trick and will take about two minutes. Dave.

Just a thought- If you have your Skype phone plugged in then the sound will be through that. Unplug the skype phone and restart your computer.

As mentioned above - you have probably hit the mute button for the speakers, depending on your laptop - look for a button which looks like a speaker with a line through it - press it to see if it restores the sound to the speakers. some laptops use this key in conjunction with the 'Fn' key, so if the speaker symbol (usually a different colour) is on a key with another symbol, you will have to hold down 'Fn' and them press the key with the speaker on it. Other laptops have the mute key at the sides of the case (easy to hit by mistake) - look in your instruction book for its location - hope this helps.

Hi Mindy I'm glad its sorted out. For anyone else who might wonder what the 'Fn' key is - its a 'Function control' key and is used in conjunction with other keys (of the same colour code) - bit of a shortcut key really for basic task, to save having to go into menus & control panel etc.

Hi Mindy I think i understand what you are saying - If you go into Skype - Tools - Options then audio settings, you can set skype to use either the phone (normally the 'USB audio device' setting if your phone plugs into a USB port) for both microphone and speakers, or if you have an built in microphone & speakers on the laptop you can set it to use these instead (This will normally be shown as some other audio device). I presume as you can hear music on both the speakers and the phone, the skype speaker settings are set to your laptop speakers and not the USB phone. Try setting both speakers & microphone to the USB option which will isolate the phone and then see if it works on its own with skype and the music is coming from your laptop speakers only. If this does not solve the problem, then the sound card options settings on your laptop will need looking at, and i would need to know more about your laptop/system. sorry if this is a bi 'techy' , but let me know how you get on.

Greengate Thanks for taking the time to explain about the sound on my laptop, I did what you said and I have now got sound in both telephone and laptop seperately, but if I do a skype test call my voice can't be heard on playback from the robot but I can hear her.So I think maybe the sound card is faulty. Will sort it at a later stage....... Thankyou once again for being so kind. Mindy

Hi Mindy - glad to have been of assistance. Re the latest problem - you may want to check (again in skype - tool - options - audio settings - micorphone) that the audio setting has not reverted back to something other than USB - it has happened to me once or twice. Also that there is a tick in the box, which says 'automatically adjust microphone settings' - and when you make a change don't forget to 'SAVE'. If this does not work - remove the tick and use the slider bar to turn up the volume until you can see a green line moving to the sound of your voice. This indicates that skype & the USB phone are OK working together - if still no joy on a test call, its possible there is a conflict with your sound card settings. Hope you get it sorted out, if not come back to me on the BB/email Happy Xmas

Greengate Thanks for replying, I did what you said, it was set on usb device, but the speaker one is balanced in middle and if I tried to slide up it just goes back down to the middle, anyway I will try it out again later. So thanks again and hope you have a very good xmas also. I am back to UK for a few days to see my family next week so will jib again when I get back on forum.
