Hi Natascia, my son goes to the local school of Alsancak and we are happy with our choice, but he is bilingual, so the language is no problem for him. I do not think that you can get a better education at a private school (provided you can understand and follow the lessons). How old are your children? I know of some English kids who went to local schools without knowing Turkish and they were really struggling, but they were 10 and 12 years old when they came over to Cyprus. Nevertheless, I think when the child is young enough he/she can easily pick up the language. Petra

My kids went to Alsancak Primary and now are all at Lapta Yavuzlar (High School) they get along fine. At Lapta there is an excellent teacher called Ahmet that helps them so much by giving extra Turkish lessons and he even translates some of their exam questions into English for them! Alsancak Ilkokulu phone number is 0392 8218369 the head mistress name is Fatma Hanım. If you are coming through Alsancak village carry on towards Lapta and the schools are just on the left (nearly opposite the 5 a side footie pitch!) Anymore help required just let me know!

Why were you disillusioned? Please don't mention the name of the school as I'm not interested in bashing anyone but Im curious as to the problems of peivate schools here. We are thinking of registering our son in a private school and would really like to get feedback regarding this situation.

My daughter who is 3 goes to Judy Porters school of Reading in Karoglangoglu, she loves it, yes it is private and I have no complaints, very reasonable prices. Could not wish for a better school for her. They take children up to the age of 6 I believe.

message 8 i really think it depends on the individual i feel disalusioned but other parents do not at my daughters school so what is not acceptable for me could be fine for someone else. But you dont know until you try so have a look at the options available to you and see what suits your child. thanks for responses yes parkview i also have heard miss judys is very very good but my daughter is 10 therefore to old for miss judys thanks

Henrik yes thanks for reply it does depend on what goes on at home also and what you expect from the school you have chosen, in this case i dont feel its the right one for my daughter so will look at some local schools i personally do not believe private schools are better than local schools i think it depends on the child and what suits them the best. many thanks natascia

I totally agree with you about the state schools however my primary concern is that my son goes to an english medium school as his father is Turkish and I don't want him to speak English as a second language. The other thing is that I went to school full day and I do not believe that a half day education is in the best interest of the child. It's just not enough to learn the basics. We are also interested in enrolling him at Miss Judy's so we are looking into moving to Kyrenia solely for the purpose of his schooling. But it's primary school Im worried about.

Hi Lulu What about the English School I know its private. I have only heard good reports. At 10 it may be hard for my lovey girl to accept the language but somehow knowing her i doubt it. Good luck love (miss you) xxx
