It might be down to security or interest rates - I go for security and thus to HSBC which is a branch of HSBC Turkey. Their UK specialist is Julie, who I find very helpfull and straight speaking.

Creditwest Bank gets my vote for security, customer service and pleasant staff. In and out in 10 mins unlike HSBC where most days you could take a picnic with you and come out starving.

Catalkoy and Karoglanoglou branches the manager is Figen Kaymak who speaks perfect English and is always more than willing to help with anything.

We changed from HSBC to Creditwest 2 years ago. Excellent service from them.

or as Simon Cowell would say "three yes's" for Creditwest bank....

They offer a good balance between security, good old fashioned service and reasonable interest rates....

I apologise in advance, but it screams at me:

'Witch' - do you mean 'which'?

'Advise'- do you mean 'advice'?

I will apologise in advance to those Board Members who wiill, no doubt, accuse me of being a member of the 'Spelling Police", but, for those of us to whom correct spelling/grammar is important, it is like a 'red rag to a bull'.

Dear Mr Measey - please don't take this personally; it is not directed at you.

Msg 7

Jeannie. I agree. Just so that you realise you're not alone.

PS. When you wish to say you are & abbreviate, then you should type you're. This is not the same as your. Not directed at Jeannie btw.

msg 1 measey/Keith. Open an account with Creditwest. Their customer service is second to none.

msg 6 eager. I don't think that measey was asking for advice on where to deposit his life savings, unless I misunderstood his question?

jeannie/Msg 7:

Hear, hear, Jeannie!

A respectable level of literacy is something everyone, despite their education, or lack of, should strive for.

However, as a Kiwi, I realise we can't pronounce our vowels properly, or as British people would say: 'phonetically correct'!

I must say that I cringe when reading all the 'their and there's' and sundry other 'howlers'!

It really depends how you want to operate the account.

If you want to do it all online then I think that the HSBC system is the most comprehensive. Most of the other banks, e.g Creditwest, Garanti, TEB & Iktisatbank, online services are very restrictive.

If you are happy to do everything at the branch and get maximum interest rates then HSBC is not the bank for you.

We have had an account with HSBC. During the 4 years of using it we have had no cause for complaint.

The staff are friendly and helpful and the internet banking is easy to use.

Have paid several bills using it with no problems.

Hi Jeannie,

I agree with you, scruff and tennerkoo2 about using the language, and I suspect DC would add to the list.

However, it has been observed somewhere that whenever people lodge criticism about errors in someone else's posting, they invariably make at least one error themselves.

I see you're keeping the average up...

I use BSBC currently and have yet to succeed with internet banking.

Jeannie,

You must remember that not everybody has been educated to the same level as you.

You have fallen down on your spelling

My vote also goes to Creditwest. They have been paying our electricity bill from our current account for a year now and no problems. It is such a relief when you are unable to be in the country more than a few times a year to know that, having gone through the painful and expensive procedure of getting a meter in the first place, you are not going to have it removed for not paying the bill.

Can I ask those of you who have been out here for ever??!! I've got a Turkish bank account but I haven't sorted out internet banking/debit card yet. Do you have to wait for your residency/work permit to come through before you can open a bank account where you can get a debit card? Thanks.

pippie,

We opened account like many people long before we came out here, had a debit card but at that time no English translation on any of the ATM's. (nightmare we didn't speak 1 word of Turkish)

If you need further details e-mail Creditwestbank and they will get back to you pronto.

Sorry for keeping this off topic.

Apology accepted!

Measey, I fully understood the posting and whilst noticing the spelling I did not feel compelled nor it appropriate to highlight them. I did not think it was important.

I am far from perfect myself, thankfully most my friends build my confidence by focussing (mmmm, focussing or focusing) on my strengths.

Nursy - I learnt what certain routine on-screen messages meant, but as you say it is when something goes wrong (especially when your card is swallowed because of th bank's incompetence) you are snookered!

Measey ( you see, I address my posts, otherwise it gets a little confusing) - see your previous posts on other threads.

I have just read your rather pathetic posts. I have obviously struck a chord here, haven't I? I thought, possibly incorrectly, that I had pointed out that my comment wasn't directed at you. Obviously not.

I think we have got the message that you are a 'Managing Director' and the fact that you 'Run Your Own Business' - point taken and good luck to you. I am but a humble medical secretary, as you have brought to the attention of many (I have no idea why). You have made no fewer than 4 posts on here relating to my 'job' of trying to teach people correct grammar. In fact, my original message was querying your spelling, not your grammar. Please, get over yourself. I think someone posted here about a month ago that they felt you were a 'wind up'; I am inclined to agree with him/her.

Merry Christmas.

JEANNIE. ( Whoops wrong again sorry for that.) Not a wind up merchant far from that but can stand up for myself when needed . Please, get over yourself.

Yes i do run my own Business and am very proud of that, hasnt been easy in these difficult times. I think WE have got the THE MESSAGE who,s WE.Never stated you were a Humble Medical Secretary but interested in job description.Yes someone about a month ago did point out that he regarded me as a wind up merchant Brinsley i think you will find, not a problem perhaps thats who WE is.Now then if you believe i have struct a chord with my pathetic posts THEN i am sorry was not my intention.

Merry Christmas.
