Com-Aks are very good and not expensive.

They are next to Mr Pound - approximately opposite the original Starling fruit stand about 200 metres from the main roundabout in Girne (Lefkosa/Girne centre/Catalkoy/Lapta) heading towards Lapta and on the right.

However, a missing file should not be hard to replace if you have your original installation CD - always assuming you can identify the package from which the file is missing. If you cannot deduce the problem package from the missing file name or from which software is no longer working, then I would suggest doing an internet search with the name of the missing file and almost certainly you will discover the affected package that way. Then simply re-install it - but if it is Windows that is missing the file then re-install via Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components.

Hope this helps.

Re missing file - if you are runnings 'windows' and have the original installation CD's - try booting up from one of CD's and when windows opens it should offer you the option to 'repair' an existing installation, this will attempt to replace missing or courrupt files, and may solve you problem.

If this works - run a virus scan immediately after, as the cause may be an infection which may have left its mark elsewhere.

Re the blank screen (could be hardware or software related - (i would need to know more about the circumstances before offering advice) - take this in for repair - com-aks are quite good and carry many of the basic spares needed, and if not they can usually get them fairly quickly.

hi mark,

The one with the missing file just switch on the laptop while pressing the f2 key and go into safe mode

key down menu to system restore and select it should restore your laptop to an earlier time.

You will not lose any information so give it a go

A system restore only restores the registry to an earlier version if there ever was a registry backup was taken.

Missing file might be a dll that has been gamaged or replaced with an infected version due to spyware or a trojan horse.

Sometimes a system installation might be needed to fix this sort of problem.

You can try to run a malware cleanup program from the safe mode that might fix the problem.
