Liz, as you know, I am an avid reader of Irish novels. Believe me, I was an only child and was dressed, much of the time, in second hand clothes. I always had a new outfit for Christmas and (I don't know why) Easter. Even when I passed the 11+ and got the coveted place at a Grammar school, my Mum was still buying second hand bits of uniform for me. Still - come on - I don't think it did us any harm (except for the fact that I swore my son would never wear clothes from a jumble sale - and he didn't) Newlad - well that obviously sticks in my mind J

My memories are of my Dad dressed up as Santa, the dog not recognising him, and biting him on the backside. A Christmas eve spent in accident and emergency. Happy days. Tx

Then there was the year that the dog nicked the turkey from the kitchen and was found eating it in the garden. Fish fingers all round. Well 2 each anyway.

And then there was the year that I found my Christmas present in the shed. A new bike. Come Christmas morning I was so excited, but I got a doll. The bike was being stored away for the little girl next door. So disappointing.

My mum eventually giving in and buying me a pair of red shoes cause I wanted to be Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz and then as an adult actually seeing the real ones on display in Orlando. I was 40+ at the time but I still shed a tear. Think looking back I had a really good happy childhood with lots of really special times at Christmas. Irene

Having my trousers and pants pulled down and being spanked by the local Vicar in his office after singing out of tune in the choir. Such fond memories, for him anyway.
