| I believe that the whole property issue will reach a head in 2010. It is quite clear that immoveable property remains a major issue of contention in the current talks. The Courts are yet to rule opon the IPC and its effect as a local and just remedy. The Orams case remains undecided, in part because of the major political implications. Original land and property owners are either deceased or have moved on to new and often more fruitful pastures. Second and third generation refugees settlers and displaced persons are more likely to forget and move on. Claims for retribution, revenge and compensation will become weaker , less prolific and somewhat diluted with time. It is the political agenda, particularly human freedoms, rights and representation that must become the basis for settlement. My hope is that the IPC will indeed be ratified as a just and proper means to settle ALL property issues and that will be an end to that Chapter within settlement discussions. |

| hmmm... the question is of course are cases like the orams' or even the hypothetical tc who sold his exchange plot, only about reclaiming this or that bungalow or is there a wider issue? you had the gc side arguing that they might almost recapture north cyprus through individual court cases coupled with "progressive" changes like the opening of the green line by legal moves... as well as the blockade itself, though that aspect is not "progressive"! while the orams are innocent and brave victims, and the darksiders clearly long for a precedent to be set, I just can't see the map of cyprus being changed this way, indeed it makes all the hopes and dreams of an amicable settlement look rather silly, as it were finally a thread like this would normally have attracted gc-apologists and the host of ambivalent also-rans I can only assume that the one euro fee paid for each anti-trnc posting is no longer being dished out due to the massive deficit in south cyprus |
