No "baristas" in Ikea Fantastic FREE capuccino, with FREE re-fills. Tuesdays only. I normally have 3 espressos then a capuccino. All in the same china cup. Three cups minimum. How much would that be at Star(loadsa)bucks? It's almost worth the drive/insurance!

Cidem, when I asked in Lefkosa about the Paper cups when it opened last year, I was told the same thing about all over the world Gloria Jeans going for paper cups now, But sorry I have have coffee in Gloria Jeans in Istanbul only last week and in New Zealand 6 months ago and in the south and they were all sold in real cups. I have to say it puts me off going as well. But good luck, will come in for a coffee and it would be a regular thing if it was in a real cup.

As a fan of all things Australian, I can suggest to anyone that they join the Coffee Culture at Gloria Jeans, but it isn't cheap, but then nor is Starbucks and the like that one has in the south. The prices are cheaper here than the south (there is a Gloria Jeans in the Debenham's complex next door to Ikea) and of course one gets a Customer Reward Card that after so many purchases you get a freebie. But although you can pay 8 or 9 tl for a 'mere' coffee, it has enough calories to see you through the day, withpiles of cream on top, and you can sit there for as long as you like putting the world to rights with your mates. All three branches of Gloria Jeans (Famagusta, Nicosia and now here in Kyrenia) seem to be doing extremely well, and it shows that the Caner Group of companies who bought the franchise are a sensible, forward looking outfit. Why didn't I think of it? Do you think it is because I don't have the money? Oh yes, why not ask them to use PROPER cups. If all ask, we may!

If you take on a franchise there are contractual rules that fit in with the rest of the world! Even most beach bars here use decent crockery or glassware.

Special to Cidem. Just done a write up of the place and had to refer to the inadequate parking, as did Mamachina! Guess most of the customers go on foot. But please do tell the bosses how most of us enjoy coffee far more in proper cups. You can get them in the south at the Debenham';s centre next to Ikea (if you ask), so maybe Kyrenia could do the same - or for use indoors only if they are afraid of breakages. Over to you on that one - p0lease!

I see that Susief in message 22 asked if anyone would give prices for the various coffees. She has been totally ignored by all you people who extol gloria jeans. Are the prices that high that nobody dares to give them?

If you look at my message No.24, I said you might pay 8 or 9 lira for a coffee, but that is a HUGE one topped with half a gallon of cream. Why don't you pop in, take a look at the prices and then decide. There are too many to list, and I am still awaiting assurance (although I might go in and ask!) for those 'china' cups. I used to have a friend who with a really super plum in m outh accent say that 'plaaastic cups ruin the taste' and she is right, so if we want quality coffee we need quality containers, especially at those high prices. But I think it is worth it for the ambience and the people you meet, and, and, and - or is it just that it takes me back to Oz? p

Thanks exnavalperson - funny how people raving about the place didn't want to give an idea of prices. MarieB, you're right of course, I could pop in to look at prices and then decide 8TL seems a little high for a coffee or hot chocolate - even if it is a large one with cream on top. Ezic Premier's coffee shop do a fabulous (and good sized) creme caramel latte with lots of cream and caramel sauce on top, all for 5TL - it's in a nice glass mug too! Still, I'm sure I'll give Gloria Jeans a try but it sounds like it may be more of a treat yourself place than a regular coffee stop for me though.

Might see you in there then!? You are buying into Coffee Culture, and of course, I am misleading - you can have an ordinary coffee with far less calories and cholesterol for less money - especially if you have 'small'. I have quoted the extremes -which I can't afford, but I like going to these places to meet people and share the special ambience which takes me back to other places I have enjoyed! Nice to have it on one's doorstep, and at the end of the day - it is personal preference. Maybe that is why there are somany different catering establishments around the place!
