A few months ago there was a thread posted about putting a pipe in the wall of the pump room to let water escape. I have been searching for ages and cannot find it now. Does anyone remember posting information about this problem?

You don't need a hole in your pump-room wall, you need it in the balance tank wall about a foot down from the top. Make sure it's not the adjoining wall.

As well as the balance tank overflow, put one in your pump room at floor level as well if you have an above ground one. This is very important so that if any pipework / gland etc breaks in the pump room it cannot flood and damage your pump / electrics TonyE

Hi Snaefell, A hole leading to the garden should do But if drilling a hole from the outside, make sure the water level is below where your drilling, or it could become a shocking experience. When it's dry, waterproof the hole with a sealant if you can. Good luck, Navek

Thanks for replies. I know there are a lot of pools which have been built by builders without the pipe being put in. These pools were not built by professional pool companies, but by builders using their own employees.

It costs pennies to put in the balance tank high-level overflow at build stage, and takes 2 minutes. Unfortunately, it also costs a bit of forethought, which is often in short supply here.
