Just reading a thread about 6xm [ http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/28792.asp ] reminded me of a suggestion I wrote on another board. So why not post it here also. Only five days ago we wished each other here and there "a happy, prosperous etc New Year" - did we mean it? If so, why not start this new year with a general pardon for all long and short time banned members? It may calm down the sometimes too excited moods. All of us know the rules here, it's up to us how 2010 will be. Furthermore I offer everybody here to communicate again (no exceptions), I'm sure it can be done in a civilised way.

P.S. It's up to board manager Izzet of course, but if this thread gets some substantial support he may do as kindly requested.

Well DC have a Happy New Year then boy, I know I will, as I am going to carry on laughing and smiling even when the smokers light up and I nearly die.!(Joke)

Perhaps we all can 'reline' our thoughts to being more accommodating to each other.. x

If anyone feels they have been unjustly banned then they should contact Izzet directly and ask for a 'Pardon'.

A pardon may not be a bad thing.

A ban for people who call decent forum users RACIST Just because they are not afraid to speak should be put in place for these Small minded people.

edmund,

Got that one correct.

Have a good friend who has been mod on another forum for about 3 years. They will not even tell me if a person is a member of that forum or not.

Their forum view is that any correspondence between members and admin/mods is 100% confidential.

AJ we have had fallouts and I have stuck up for you but I think you are getting a little bit power crazy, this is a BB, you are not the President of a huge country and you are abusing your power by only informing some of your so called knowledge, you need to get out more and lighten up a bit.

I'm sure it can be done. Even the Hippo and I have not exchanged any unfriendly or hostile posts - and it is already January 6! I may even buy his poetry book and ask him to sign it... (As a foreigner with a limited knowledge of the English language I feel obliged to add here: the above is a joke! Dutch sense of humour, you know...)

Why don't we all agree to make this year a 'forgive and forget' year?

Lets just let bygones be bygones and move onwards and upwards. We're all adults and yes we all have opinions but lets try and keep it civil. You never know you might like it!

By the way this post is not intended for any one person - I'm just generalising.

DC's appeal to re-instate banned members should be viewed by 'the powers that be' as a demonstratively public spirited gesture, that can, surely, only generate the feeling of good will that this forum so obviously needs to recapture.

Simbas,it's probably Nige.

Hans,it was the timing of your 'offer'.You upset a hell of a lot of people on the Wooton Basset thread, even your friends were telling you that you had gone too far but you kept on and eventually the thread was removed.Do you just expect folk to forget what you wrote just because the thread has been removed and then ask for an amnesty?

Furthermore,do you not realise that if you hadn't created your blacklist of 'persona non grata' then you wouldn't have to offer to communicate with them again.Do you reaslise how childish this is?

I don't know the history DC, but your suggestion is an excellent one for the successful continuance of any forum.

All forums have a few members who rile others and cause a bit of disruption but it is usually the case that their threads also attract the most posts!

Once forums chuck off everyone who ruffles feathers or doesn't post in agreement with everyone, they quickly turn to discussing fluffy kittens or knitting patterns (in the case of C44 this would more likely be reams of threads recommending local eateries and where to get the cheapest pint of Effes or whatever) and then the membership dwindles down to the few diehards who always agree with each other and post to throw cyber bouquets at each other. And becomes VERY boring.

If there were clearer laid out rules about what is and is not allowed to be discussed on this 'non discussion' forum, it would save some the bother of posting in the first place (assuming they read the rules)

Simbas”

Simbas, I salute you!

To retain your innocence whilst acting as a moderator on an internet forum is a truly remarkable achievement.

Irrespective of the level of detail, any discussion pertaining to the board activities of one member, between a board official and another member which involves information gained as a result of that officials’ position, is a breach of confidence, a betrayal of trust and an abuse of power.

Our old mate Pikey came back numerous times and only kept geting banned because he could not help himself in being spiteful and obnoxious to people on this site. We were all thiefs etc,

I have no problem with Mark coming back....only advice would be to keep off the Dopi....and he should be alright.

I am rapidly losing interest in this board,a pity after waiting so long to get broadband. From being a useful source of information, (50% of which is now usually wrong or supposition), it's become a schoolyard, a dumping ground for angst, an emotional rubbish tip for those to whom a keyboard is a licence to wind-up others. When I lived in Spain, after a while sensible people stopped posting on the local forums, and got on with the business of living their lives, not pretending that the nonsensical drivel appearing in print was actually of any interest to anyone with more than a lukewarm IQ.Stand back and re-read some of the stuff posted here in the last few days, ask yourself "Does it actually give pleasure, or enhance life, or indeed matter in the grand scheme of things?" No....it's a lot of bleating about f*** all really, visual graffiti. So glad I chose to live way out near Bahceli, the back end of beyond. My wife says I am sad for being a member of the 44 forum these days.

TONY, you must be bloody mind reader, you have just posted what I was thinking, and I'm sure a lot of others as well. I think the lack of social structure here as opposed to spain is reflected in the postings on the 44 forum, ie, "nothing better to do!".

Well said Tony. I've said much the same on another thread. Just lately (apart from lost dog threads and the recommendations of eateries and their opening closing dates), it seems most new threads (and certainly the most popular threads - therefore they must be enjoying it) are all about interpersonal disputes, revelations of personal email contents, off board spats and what have you. NO interest whatsoever to anyone new to the forum, or anyone who hasn't a clue who or what they are trashing and slagging off. Maybe the seemingly over zealous mods should turn their attention to getting rid of a few of these sort of threads, lots of which seem to be nothing more than 'Attention Seeking Threads' or a ploy to get others to post expressing sympathy or support for the disgruntled member. All very sad and all very boring.

Ref msg59: Spot on!, With both your's and Tony's comments. Dont you get sick to the back teeth of all that " nobody loves me" crap, and the countless postings on bloody dogs for christs sake. Or, "I know what I'll do say I'm leaving to see how many people will say they love me" and do you know what? its always the same old people that fall for it all the time.
