Best to bring over any unlocked mobile and just buy your new sim card over here. Turkcell or Telsim. No problems getting phone unlocked over here either.

I brought a '3' phone back with me last week and one shop kept it for 2 days but couldn't unlock it. I also went to a shop in UK after I bought it and they said they could do it but needed it for 3 days or longer. I am on my 3rd attempt now to try and get it freed up to use my turkcell sim.

Everon - many phones that CarphoneWarehouse sell are not locked to a service so that may be why yours did not need any work.

Everon Since buying the phone I have learnt that '3' is one of the most difficult to freeup. I could use it here with the '3' sim card but it would cost too much, but thanks, I will try Turkcell. I have given it to a Cypriot friend to try and sort so here's hoping.

If in the UK, go to Tesco. They have some fantastic deals on mobile phones. Provided you do not want one with all the bells and whistles, you can often get them for as little as £10 and that includes a £10 top up card which you can use when you are back in the UK. Last time over there we picked up a nice little Nokia for £12 - as we only talk and text, it does for us. Paul

Everon - with care as some of the more complex / expensive PDA phones might still be locked to one supplier.
