Our solicitor was useless too! A local woman working in an estate agent had a friend in the Land Registry and seeing our frustration at being constantly being fobbed off, without being paid, she gave the friend a call and suddenly we had the deeds. That was back in 2002 though.

We have our temp deeds for the land. The builder wanted to finish everything off and put the house on the deeds. We were asked by a solicitor, one of the better ones I am told, to sign a power of atorney so that the builder could do everything for us. We did so under protest but assured by solicitor that they would chase these titles on a daily basis til they were issued and that we would not have any hassel. 3 months down the line the solicitors have done nothing except passing on a reference number and when I asked for an update I was told to chase the builder or the registers office myself. Duty of care my arse. I should have known that the solicitor was lieing because her lips moved.

It takes years to put the house on the deeds but I wouldn't worry too much if you have the deeds for the plot.

The builder gave us a piece of paper, which looked as if it was ripped from a receipt book. I went down to the Land Registry several timesover a 3 month period and was finally given the kocan. Our solicitor was not very pleased when I told her I had picked them up myself.

If you have the deeds and then sell your house, how long will it take for the new buyer to obtain the deeds from the initial buyer/solicitor ???

I had to deal with Military Inteligence over my property and they were great.Very helpful. One of the things they did point out to me was the fact that having got my Temporary Residency I had no need to employ an advocate/solicitor. He told me ( waving my pink card under my nose ) not to waste money. Unfortunatly I had already paid a solicitor.
