1. Photo copies of passport of identity page and visa page. 2. Little booklet given last year - your Residency book 3. Photo copies of bank statements HERE (they dcon't seem interested in U.K. ones, but take them in case.) 4. Muhtar's letter with a 1.5tl stamp on it. 5. Photocopy of Kojan of property OR Contract of Sale with stamp on it, OR rental contract. I think that is it. Good luck. Oh, and don't forget to take a big smile to the police station. They are on overload and can do with a bit of tender loving kindness themselves. If you happen to be a couple, then of course you need photocopies times two. Good luck. Enjoy. I had a fun mkorning yesterday, finding out who spoke the most languages.

If you are married I have heard that you need a copy of your marriage certificate.

Yes, I heard that one too Stella, but I am well and truly married and took the Certificate just in case - but not asked for, not needed, to the certificate merely had an outing to Kyrenia. Maybe, just maybe, they ask that first time around. But definitely not us.

Marriage certificate - if applicable - is now definitely required. Don't forget to take your passport as well as the appropriate page copies.

Seems the marriage cert is required on some days and not others so best take it anyway. They were asking last year when we did our renewal but not required.

I said our Marriage Certificate was in the UK and they said No Problem. Not sure if they really need it after the first residency. Karen

I went this morning with my brother and his wife. In addition to the items MarieB listed they wanted photocopies of the last visa slips. This may have been because their temporary residency had expired but we were asked for the same when we applied last year before our residency had expired. They definitely want a TRNC bank statement but with a little persuasion accepted the copies of the UK bank statements. It remains to be seen if the Immigration Office at Lefkosa will accept them. They didn't ask for a marriage certificate. Don't forget to get a ticket for each applicant before queuing up, you have to go into the Immigration Office to get them. They are open for applications between 8am and 12 noon.

Our marriage cert was asked for in November 2009, on renewal. Lostfound, I only had a few ŁK in our joint acct which I showed them, no problems. TonyE

MarieB, message 2 - does the Muhktar's letter have to be a new one each time. I have a copy of the one I got last year, but suspect I need to go and get another one?

Quick responses to some of the above. Firstly, Message 11, I DID say a photo of visa was required, I stated that in item 1 of the list. Secondly, the question of Muhtar's letter has been answered, but yes, it MUST be new every year, and I don't know where youlive, but you have to have Muhtar and deputy, and in some instances (I did last year), the under deputy. But the Muhtar will tell yhou. Thirdly, for filing the papers, you don't have to go to Immigration - that is to collect the visa. Depends where you live, I guess, but one can go to Girne Policestation and if you are over the other end to Famagusta. In between I don't know. So, I hate to say this, but the list I gave was correct. The money here is odd, because it does NOT prove income, and one could spend it on high living in a matter of months and be penniless, so I don't know why they changed that. Previously, it was to see how much one had coming in on a regular basis. I bet they change that next year!!! again!

MarieB but in addition to the photocopy of the visa page on your passport they also asked for photocopies of the white visa paper that you use when crossing to the South which is what I was referring to but obviously not very clearly. Hopefully, it will be clear now.

Also when I referred to Immigration Office, I was referring to the one inside the Police station in Girne where you have to get a ticket before they will see you. Sorry if it was confusing, I knew what I meant lol and was just trying to be helpful to those who haven't been for a while.

Please be warned, do not book a holiday that begins during your residency renewal. You cannot leave the country until you have your residency stamp. If you do, you will have to pay a fine of 65 euros per day.

Flowerfairy what happens if you have to go back to the UK urgently for an operation or to see an ill relative, ie not a holiday as you mention in your message. I thought you could go abroad without incurring a fine, as long as you had a letter or some document from authority......... police? Can someone review/ advise please.

Quickie - I had all the right things, lots of Bank statements, we both had copies of marriage certs and all the usual gubbins, did them in two packs, gave them in as a pack - no problems, kept everything except a receipt for the tax. Smiled, signed and got out really fast - once in!! Now to wait and collect. Interestingly I had the white visa paper from trips south, in the cover of my passport, they glanced at it, thats all.

Have not heard of needing the visa slip for visits to the South before. We have only walked over a few times last year, and would not hang onto the slip of paper. No one ever told us to. How many people would hang onto the bit of paper??????? For those that are frequent visitors they must have a whole wad of the things......seems totally illogical to me, when it is all on computer anyway.

Sorry to contradict earlier advice, but I know several who have been to the UK. when they have applied for residency renewal, but not yet got the stamp in their passports. Since it is taking Lefkosa so long to process the residency (sometimes 4 wks+) then it's hardly surprising that not everyone will get the stamp in the Visa in time. The important thing is to have made the application. Re. white visa slips. This may only be a theory. We were asked for them last year, but neither of us had been outside the TRNC in the previous year. I though this may be the reason? The previous visa slips for trips South were in the car. We could have fetched them, but they just checked on the computer instead. If you have thrown them away, the they would have to do this.

Joe Soap, i cannot answer your question about being berieved or sickness. Last year, you could go out during the process. Apparantly, this year they have changed the law. I do know that if you've booked a flight out of larnaca, and your residency hasn't been fully processed, you'll have difficulties going out, and returning. I don't think it has been advertised anywhere either.

Message 19 Flowerfairy, I feel the need to contradict. I put my renewal papers in to the police station, and left the North before my temp res visa ran out. I was away when it expired. I returned a few days after expiry and received a 60 day stamp. I can see no reason for any fine, as you can quite legally leave the country at any time, and return at any time. The problems occur if your visa expires and you are still here, or you live on never ending 90 renewals. TonyE

Late answer, but I have never been asked to show white slips, that is all done at Lefkosia Police Station before you can collect your new visa. After all, there may be loads of slips. If you go over, say, 60 times, that cannot be contained on one piece of paper. Secondly, I left the country last year. I asked the Police is that o.K - of course, said they - problem yok. And they were right. As I said in another thread, when I came back, I mwerely said 'bir yeni gelior' and I was given a 90 day stamp. So indeed, problem yok. Maybe they vary the lengthof stamp, but you are doing nothing illegal by leaving the country. As our friend above says, the fine is if you overstay on an expired visa and have not lodged a new application. As toliving on never ending renewals, that is why the Petches were thrown out last year (so it was said). Fun isn't it?

It's irrelevant whether others have been asked for a white slip or not. If one person is asked for it then I would have thought it is sound advice to pass that information on. The poster asked what documents are required and I have passed on my experience, he can make up his own mind. It's the latest white slip btw, if you have one - obviously if you don't have one then you can't produce it. Having renewed 5 times and been to the police station to help others I know that no matter how well prepared you are you can still be caught out. Bottom line is go to the police station 1st and ask them what is required rather than relying on what is said on this board.

TonyE Mesage 26 Thanks for that it concurs with exactly what I was told by the police at Girne Leave with a CURRENT visa no problems, if expired on return you will get a 90 stamp If you leave with an expired visa (albeit with your renewal aplication in) you have problems. I understand (but not confirmed) the way around this is to go to the immergration dept and they will issue a temp visa

Many thanks for your advice.. all of you, although I see some advice varies. I think I'll be on safe side and visit the immigration dept., as the annual visa has expired and the replacement is being processed. Joe
