Hi,

An update on east of Esentepe turn off, in last 18 months we have the following bars/restauraunts opened up: Stevie's Bar and Restaurant/Poppin Bar/Moulos Restaurant/Joya Bar Bistro Restaurant/Sinya Restaurant/Emily's Bar Cafe.Restaurant/Sinya Restaurant/Hacienda Cafe.Bar/Merlins' Bar Restaurant/ and yesterday the Bar B reopened with it also becoming a Restaurant on 5th Feb.

Also on main road now are Esentepe Pools' and a Marshalls'. As well as existing bar's Antique and Poppin Bar.

Things are happening out this side of the island now.

Also we have numerous bars and restaurants up in Esentepe itself

All we need now is a big supermarket to open up!

Tarry67,

Is that why you are living in Little England 'Lapta'. at least those of us now at this end of the island do not always need to go to Girne or Famagusta for a night out all the time

I have heard they are going to build a small super market near the new row of shops after the Antique bar and restaurant. It is very much needed in this area and so is a good bakers. However, although all the new restaurants and bars are welcome, I would not like to see it become like the west side of Girne. Please god don't spoil this lovely piece of earth.

I have to agree with Tarry on this, why do we need everything on the doorstep, we have shops, including a small supermarket, in the village, the bigger supermarkets aren't really that far away!

I heard from a local today that work on the new Marina will commence in March (but which March is anyone's guess) and that Levant Houses who apparently own Lemar Supermarkets will build a new supermarket near Kucuk Erenkoy and there will also be a new gas station. If it happens it will be great for us living this side of the island. I will keep you posted.

teatime,

I agree we do not need everything on doorstep but it is nice to have some places within easy reach. Also, the majority of the restaurant/bars etc are situated off the main road/down near the sea etc.

Supermarket, agree we do not want many but 1 would be goos, we do have a few local small market shops, but they do not stock very much, yes they have the basics but after that we have to go to Girne Famagusta or down south. Would much prefer to spend money locally.

Yes every time i visit things seem to have changed apart from last visit which was 16months ago and it looked a bit dirtier and much seemed to have come to a grinding halt but i reckon that must have been the reccession biting and the property issues.

One of the larger trustworthy(that must bring on a sarcastic response)estate agents told me there are plans for a shopping development and petrol station, supermarket between TBV and Esentepe Village.

I think eventually that fairly baron strip will one day resemble the N330 between Fuengirola and Marbella.

Japeal

Unfortunately Lapta has always been a large built up area, and is nothing to do with who actually lives in an area being british or cypriot, it is the destruction of the countryside and especially in your area where there was nothing but a lovely coast road, lovely scenery and a few houses spread about. Not saying that there should not be any construction, just saying really that it would be nice if they could build something that blends in with the surroundings, instead of a massive neon sign on the top of a supermarket or houses that remind you of Israel. You live in a lovely part of the island on the eastside, so why would you welcome construction of large shops etc

Hi Clayton,

Coming from Esentepe towards Tatlisu, Hacienda Cafe Bar is on the right approx 600 metres past Alkan Holiday Village, Sinya Restaurant is also on Right aprrox 200 metres past Joys Restaurant turning. Bar B is on the right approx 500mtres past Seville homes complex

Tarry67,

I Agree, but as stated on an earlier podst the majority of plces are spread out not next door to each other, to date we do not have a 'strip' where everything is together let us hope it continues that way

See ing from both sides, as an owner I would like to see a few more facilities our side, when we rent it out most people assume it will be like a european resort.

Stevie's Bar and Restaurant, great bar and good food, /Poppin Bar _ very cheap and tasty curries, /Moulos - Good bar especialy after a walk food not always on , but it was November last time , great BBQ in the summer.

Restaurant/Joya Bar Bistro Restaurant, Fantastic venue and great looking a bit more expensive but great food.

Sinya Restaurant- Not been in yet cant comment

Emily's Bar Cafe.Restaurant Great couple realy good home made food, pie and chips to die for, dont knock it till you try.

Hacienda Cafe.Bar/Merlins' Bar Restaurant Not been in any of these and great to see the new bar opening/ and a smallish supermarket would do as the one in the village is a bit limited

Why they ever opened a Lemar at Ozankoy I dont know, its always empty and only 2 tills open, they should have built it further up in Esentepe way. They didnt use their brain!

Know what you mean Lilli, life seems to have taken off east of Kyrenia since I left TRNC. I recall the Esentepe Villa Hotel (is that right?), and the Antik restaurant, then run by Tony. OK Tony has moved on, who is running it now?

But anything else is new to me!

I think I'm with Japeal on this one. I've spent many lovely days visiting Tatlisu, visiting being the operative word. It's ok for Girneans and Laptaites to shout "keep it as it is, we don't want our view spoiling, on the odd times that we pass through on our way to the Karpaz" The area is, as the advert reads, "a piece of Earth, touched by Heaven". To visit. To live there full time, as Japeal does, the area needs a few facilities, not many, but a good supermarket is one.

Yep agree, It's beautiful out East side, but one or two restaurants and a good supermarket wouldn't go amiss.

The new slip road i understand is to make the turning to esentepe a bit safer. However if divers do not slow down this stop could become an accident hotspot

cant remember the date,i am sure it was on the last 2 wks in sept.i think it was over a week period.i am sure it was some kind of festival.a tc took us there who we have made friends with over the last 2yrs.i am not sure of the directions,i think we came to a cross roads, where the petrol station was on the left hand side of the road.we turned right and went up into the mountains,i took this as being tatlisu.it was a small village they had stalls out and a massive stage to perform on.we were told the pop star came from turkey and was very well known over there.the tc guy who we were with said poeple came from all over to watch it.they were giving trophies out for the best tc singer.there were tv guys also there.i think we went on the last night,i know they were advertising it in different restraunts leading up to it.come to think of it i am sure it was a festival.hope this helps elaine

I think the sliproad is to aid access to the Great Stone site and also it gives us an additional lane for turning right off the main road, not sure how you turn right at the bottom of the hill to head towards Tatlisu though.

I'm confused as to why people need even more supermarkets/shops. The ones within Esentepe Village have everything you need, they even stock a wide variety of imported goods now for those who cannot live without. I personally don't bother with the imported items as I find the local produce of equal quality and far cheaper.

I agree a chemist would be nice as would a cash dispenser machine but at least we do have a bank, as do Tatlisu.

Hmm. What is more saddening than driving from Girne to Kantara/Karpaz and see all these block huts left and right of the road, spoiling the view that used to be so nice? - Signed: DC (reactionary & old fashioned).

Hans I totally agree. I don't know what the solution would be really as I assume each and every one of these concrete shells are unfortunately owned by someone and the builder went out of business. Very sad.

RE msg 44, orangekazzie: My favourite saying: We learn from history that we don't learn from history. I've seen it happen during my travels all around the Mediterranean. From Portugal (Algarve, where the decline started) to now Cyprus and the eastern, coastal part of Turkey. Remember one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the Mediterranean, the winding fairy tale road from Girne to Tatlisu and further? Gone. Cut in pieces. Unaccessable. Just because "we" obviously needed a fast road to... Yes, to nowhere for years now. No, we never learn to cherish the fine touristic specialties. "Sustainable tourism" in TRNC? Don't make me laugh. It's all words. From msg 1: "All we need now is a big supermarket to open up!". Yeah.

Yes I remember the coastal road. We used to travel it many time to see our plot of land before the new road was even started. I've never understood why they had to cut it up. Yes, the new road has helped but they should have left the old one alone for those who weren't in a hurry. It would be nice to think they had learnt by this mistake and when they do eventually finish the road they leave the remaining coastal road instact.

I agree that a few more amenities are needed in this area, lovely for those visiting and driving along admiring the scenery etc. but for those who live permanently a small supermarket and some more places to go and eat would be welcome.

But what about the Bogaz, Iskele area? We have everything we need here, including a Lemar!! A beautiful harbour that is the focal point of the village, enough good restaurants and bars either in the village or close by and only a short drive from some of the most amazing sandy beaches o the Karpaz or on the road to Famagusta.

For anyone thinking of moving to North Cyprus who do not want anywhere too built up, seriously look at the region between Famagusta and the Karpaz, it is not over developed and you have everything you need close by.

PS I drove along the Protaras "top" road this weekend, realised why i love living i the North!!!

Having just returned from Tatlisu, we have enjoyed meals in all the above named restaurants. Good value for money and all reasonably priced. Sinya restaurant is very good, a young Turkish man owns it, he is very polite and he is just starting out, I hope he gets some support the place is spotless.

Also we visited Metran, next door to the Metran grocers store. We had Pide which is like a pizza only better, home made chips, and salad all made fresh. Very reasonably priced. I cant wait to return in May.
