we will only be using the aprtment when we come out, and possibly renting it to friends and family....

with regards to curtains, i dont like cutains, i may go for some voiles, but want to have shutters and fly screens fitted

I agree with Mermaid Fabrics - great job and will make blinds etc for you, all very good quality and fitted. Fans from Elektrakur and try Smart + furniture on coast road on the right hand side below Ozankoy.

Go to Botanica in Catalkoy, they do a huge range of furniture all hand made here on the island and not overpriced.

White good - Arcelek come from main roundabout in Girne, head towards Lapta, few hundred yards on left.

Been here 4 years so not bought recently but the road from Girne to Catalkoy has loads of new shops selling everything.

Go to Lamboussa auctions, they have a huge variety of household things, with so many people going back to England.

Billyboy

Do what I do have a look yourself first, weed out the shops that don't suit your tastes.

Then show your other half your choices. I think if they don't want to shop then leave them at the nearest bar / cafe. The shop owners usually give you prices and discount offers.

I hope you like window shopping cause the choice is great.

Good luck

Billyboy, when are you thinking to buy the furniture? And when will you be wanting to start using it from?

The reason I ask is we have to vacate our apartment early Feb and our furniture won't be arriving from the UK to go in our new place for a couple of weeks after that. I don't want to have to buy a load of furniture we're not going to need, and I had thought that may be we could 'slum it' on a single bed and a couple of deck chairs and buy in the bare minimum of cups, bowls, pans and a bit of cutlery. But we'll still have to sell the bed off when our other furniture arrives cos we won't have room.

So, ... I know it's not the same when you're buying for your own home but, if you were going to be thinking of renting your apartment out in the future anyway, I don't suppose you'd be interested in a 'baby sitter' for some of your furniture for you, and we could contribute something towards the cost (to help you and us!). If interested, please e-mail me off the forum.
