Sorry but in your first posting, you say Bobby has never been out of the house?? Has he never been taken for walks in the 5 months you have been in Cyprus? If this is the case no wonder he has run off, my son has a long haired german shepherd, she is walked twice a day and taken to the beach every other day to run for miles. They need plenty of excersise and can not be kept cooped in a house or garden. I hope you find your dog and I am sad for you as you must be very worried but I hope this part of your posting is not correct for the dogs sake. The butlers wife

I have seen the dog twice today down by army base just outside Karsiyaka early in the morning(6.30 ish) and later on(1-1.30 ish)around same area but this time towards the seaside.Dont know the name but before you get to army base, coming from Karsiyaka there is nursery sign on your right, turn in there and follow it down to saeside.Seen it (him/her) there. Have already rung and told the owner, just giving the info just in case anyone lives that way.

Butler`s Wife. Maybe there`s a reason for not letting him out. I have a good reason for not letting mine out any more - i.e. We nearly lost him to poison when he was being walked by us on a lead, which he always was and this was after we had combed the streets cleared up the s==t that some pig of a person had put down, after our friend`s dog who was let out alone picked up. The dog has ample room to run around and exercise where we live and we know he is safe and is far from cooped up. Have you ever seen a dog that has been poisoned? If not, you dont want to and your son`s dog stands a good chance of having just that happening to her if she is allowed to run loose especially along beaches. jdjaffy - I sincerely hope you have a happy ending and will look out for him.

butlers wife....msg 17 I was not going to comment on your posting but I have just received a phone call from John who posted asking for help.....not critisism. I actually met him this afternoon and found out that he has previously owned 3 german shepherds in the past and that "Bobby" belongs to his 9 year old son who has had him since a pup. His son is very upset having read your post and at this moment in time the dog has not been found. Like Lilli and whistler I do not take my two dog's out due to the ongoing threat of posion. They both have more than enough exercise in the garden either playing with each other or with the excercise that I provide by playing with them. I think a little more sensitivity on your part would have been more helpful in what is already a worrying time for this family....especially when children are involved.

RE msg 21, puppylover: (...) I think a little more sensitivity on your part would have been more helpful in what is already a worrying time for this family....especially when children are involved. (...) => Dear expats, mainly British, why don't we all read puppylover's words like this: "I think a little more sensitivity on ===> (y)OUR <=== part would have been more helpful in what is already a worrying time for this family....especially when children are involved.". Please read it slowly again.

| RE msg 24, ttoli: (...) BTW Lilli, Who is Hundini??;) (...) => Allow me to reply for Lilli (Liz Spina)? Liz is married to this Italian Guido, whose ability to play chess is even worse than his command of the Italian language. So, Liz meant (whatever this imitation-Karpov may have taught her): Houdini. | On behalf of my son, and the rest of my family. We would to say a special thankyou to puppylover and her husband for all their help, and of course for everbody elses help, in looking for our missing family member. And say family member because he is treated like one. Even my 18 month old daughter has been walking around calling his name. Unfortunatly as of this time weve still had no luck in finding him. So will probably not sleep again tonight either. Fingers crossed tomorrow is a better day. Many thans to all......john. |

I am sorry if I have upset some people by my comments but the post said the dog had never been out of the house, it didn't say garden. I realise that owners have to be extra vigilant because of the poison etc but being kept in such confined spaces is not healthy for the animal. I am a dog lover and have owned dogs in the past but I would not have one in Cyprus because I do not think it is fair on the animal not to be able to take it out for a walk. I do sympathise with this family especially the little boy and I hope they find their pet soon. When I said my son took his dogs out twice a day and to the beach for long walks, I didn't say he lived in Cyprus. He lives in the UK. Once again these are only my opinions and will differ to some peoples on this site but I am entitled to them, as it is an open forum. The butlers wife

I live in Lapta, but your end of the village and will look for him tomorrow when I take my three street dogs for their walk. Like Bobby's owner I am terrified of poison and my dogs are not allowed out on their own and I do wish that people on this forum were not so quick (best intentions no doubt) to judge others. Not everyone is brilliant at expressing themselves on paper and maybe we should first check out exactly what they mean before condemming them.

Hello everbody, would just like to say thankyou to everybody for all their help in looking for our Bobby. As you have herd hes safe and dry back at home. Legs a bit stiff, but a couple of days rest will probably cure that. A special thankyou goes out to Dave and Liz for the phone call. I had already been down that area three times and didnt see him. It just goes to show you when people team together you can do miracles. many many thanks John and family.

I am so glad this dog has been found safe. But for anyone else seeking a pet for a small child I would recommend that they choose from the many small breeds of dog that are happy to get no real exercise outside of the house and garden - GSs are working dogs and they need to be kept well exercised in both body and mind to keep them healthy and happy. There are many other breeds that are suited to being house pets or lapdogs and happy to stay inside or just go out into the yard. German Shepherds benefit from obedience training and regular strenuous exercise.
