My name is Amber and I am 4 years old small and non descript terrier honey coloured.

My name is Ruby and I am 3 years old and I am a small honey coloured terrier.

Why do people take dogs if they are not sure they are going to be permanent in NC.

Message 3. That is a chicken and egg situation. One reason is that things change for people and while they might have intended to stay here, something has happened to change that, and of course animals turn up on the doorstep, hungry and starving, and while not wanting an animal, people tend to feel so sorry for them they feed them, and suddenly they have moved in. I had a terribly thin pregnant mother cat turn up in my garden last year, and wouldn't go. I couldn't ignore her, so I fed her, I am now feeding her and her 3 kittens. I have my own animals and do not want these, so have not given them names, they are not my pets, they live in the garden, but I have to feed them. So what happens if I move? Should I have just left the thin pregnant mother to starve to death?

I do not know this persons circumstances, but if you judge people like that, that try to find homes for animals on this board, people will stop posting, and the animals will have no chance of finding a home.

Paddywack please dont judge people unless you know the circumstances.

Many people who do come to live here do come to live permanently but things happen that we are not in control of.

Thanks Stellasstar1 I myself have a cat that just turned up on my doorstep and yes you are right you just cannot not feed them.

I hope that we live in a civilised society!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with Stella, Vidal and big momma. If you can't offer the animals a home or know someone who can kindly don't post.

I believe that the plight of the animals can be absolutely heart breaking, i know a lot of people that came to the TRNC came without animals and as time goes by you can't help but take them in, and for those that have to leave for what ever reason hard decisions have to be made. So I for one am glad to see people trying to re-home their animals and hope and pray they continue to do so. It's a better option than turning them back onto the streets.

I also hope that people coming to live in the TRNC consider very carefully when they bring their animals with them, if you have to leave you should be taking them with you, you bought them to the Island and they should leave with you, if you loved them enough to bring them take them with you when you leave, don't add to a situation that is bad enough already.

More poor mutts being left behind by Brits (the so called nation of animal lovers). And some have the gall to criticise Cypriots for their attitude towards animals.

Not another one returning to the UK and leaving their pets behind? They always say they are very lovable - obviously not lovable enough for them to do anything to keep them with them.

What will happen to them if they don't find homes.

I always wonder why someone posts on another person's behalf - everyone has a computer these days, if not a laptop - if not either, they can open a hotmail account and deal with it through an internet cafe.

Not even a 'phone number - IF they are so concerned about their animals - why can there only be contact via this board and someone not connected to the animals? I do believe every person who takes an animal, either out of sympathy or brings one to Cyprus or adopts one - should put in writing they will be responsible for that animals entire life time, either euthanasia upon leaving, or take the pet with them. All should be neutered or spayed, in any event.

Crazy situation........

I don't think it is the cost of shipping the animals back to the UK that is the problem but the cost of putting them in to Quaranteen for 6 months when they arrive back in the UK. I realise that we have to protect our shores from the chances of rabies etc being brought in from abroad but surely in the 21st century there must be an easier way than incarcerating an animal for 6 months, with all the distress that causes the animal and owner.

Lillie, she is so pleased too as she would have had to put them down and that would be heartbreaking.

Thanks Annette

Hi Annette I know and after what happened to my BJ I think if I were in the same circumstances I would consider that, as much as it would break me in two, i couldnt bear that fate for any of the others xx

Read at weekend - in China - a van goes around picking up stray animals - as the van is driving along - the driver presses a button, all animals in the van behind him are gassed - so when he arrives at his destination, he simply unloads them for cremation. Seems a good solution for a desperately sad situation. I do believe that anyone who takes an animal into TRNC should sign a paper that they will - whatever their circumstances, pay to take that animal back to wherever - OR pay to have it euthanised if it can't be found a home before they leave and that they HAVE to show proof at the airport (which will have a record of their bringing an animal in) either of re-homing (and full, contactable details) or proof of euthanasia. Also upon entry, show proof the animal has been spayed or neutered, or entry refused. Maybe TRNC doesn't deal with strays/ferals because non-indigenous folk take up the slack, hard as it is, that should stop? Forcing their hand.
