Car owners and passengers that smoke in there own cars/vehicles will next be targetted .

The proposed regulationin the UK is to stop smokers from smoking as children and non smokers will benefit from the regulation to stop smoking in cars/vehicles .

This regulation will no doubt filter through to TRNC . What do readers think ?

Very hard to police unless the car is moving then you could be charged with driving without due care and attention. However if the car is stationary and you own it doubt very much if they can do anything.

Next will be council homes but again impossible to police.

p.s. Just my opinion.

Well, I suppose smoking is just the worst crime. I'm so pleased that the governmentare spending so

much time and taxpayers money to make these laws and enforce them.

ttoli - but it is surely as dangerous as using a mobile - although as for policing it?? I wonder how many drivers in the UK have actually been prosecuted for using a mobile??? Love to see it though!!

Do not see why it should not be enforced. You are smoking in a confined space where other members of the public are, even if they are members of your own family.

I think they should make all smokers move to one small Island - there they could be happy and left alone in peace to end their days as they wished!

Well I tried but then the non smokers arrived here with all their baggage and hostility - so I guess there is no such thing as freedom in the world anymore.

Why not let the smoker smoke in his/her car - it keeps all the smoke in one place and is a damn site safer than having children perched on the front seat distracting the driver whilst they try to use their mobile phones or chat to the person in the back!

I'm pretty sure that I read in Cyprus Today that someone had been fined for smoking whilst driving here - so maybe the legislation already exists.

I am sure it is against the law here in the TRNC to eat, drink, smoke or use a mobile phone, and has been for a few years. The fact that no one adhers to the rules, is neither here nor there.

It is technically illegal under the provision of driving without due care and attention, same as using a mobile phone.

I do know a case where smoking caused a death. Man dropped lighted ciggie in his lap and while searching for it hit a sand stone wall at over 50mph.

His girl friend was dead instantly he is permanemtly disabled.

So for anyone who keeps saying, what is the problem...... sorry just hope it is only yourself you wipe out.

Give the smokers a break for christs sake.

Ask any nurse in any casualty dept, or any policeman, what is the cause , of most accidents in the home, fights, murders etc etc.

I think you will find it is alcohol related. Are you same anti smokers happy about being banned, because the way this stupid polictlley correct world is going, that will be next

The only time I smoke is when I have a drink.

There should be Bars and pubs for smokers.

I believe it could be a danger when driving (especially if your having a glass of wine at the time)

To clear this up.....it is already illegal to smoke in a car...this law has been in force for a few years now. I know of this because the cab driver i used to use on a regular basis always put out his cigs when he saw cops...also requested that i did it too.

This is getting silly now, no one has to accept a lift of a smoker, I am a smoker and chose not to smoke in my car as I don't want the interior yellow, but I smoke in my husbands truck, it is our vehicles so who is anyone to dictate when we have purchased these vehicles, non smokers stop your dictation you have a choice, and you also have a choice not to travel with smokers in vehicles that they have purchased at there cost, so get a cab!!

We all have rights, maybe us smokers should wear a bell round our necks to warn the non-smokers we are their maybe you could roll it out to drunks and alcoholics and 4 by 4 drivers polluting the atmosphere.

Or make smoking illegal Mr Brown then you will have to raise the billions in cigarette tax another way. Maybe he could tax fresh air instead?????

With children in the car the parents or whoever is driving should show consideration for the children if not then they are irresponsible.

Using your mobile in the car whilst driving makes you less attentive and as such is against the law, smoking in the car in my opinion is just as dangerous.

If euthanasia is not allowed in most countries why do they allow tobacco companies to sell their products.

Has anyone seen the best party trick ever?

Light a 'gasper' - pull a condom down over your head, as far as your mouth - then take several drags while breathing out and blowing up the condom - eventually the condom bursts, giving spectators the illusion that the 'explosion' has decapitated you - choice, eh!!!

Amazing!

I say ban alcohol, I am sick of being targetted because I smoke, I am not going to kill anyone by having a ciggy in my car and I am sure I won't stop either, so if ppl do not want to inhale my smoke, don't get in my car. simples!

It is getting sillier by the day.

Totally agree deecyprus4, anyone with any sense would not smoke while their child was in the car anyway. As for being illigal using mobiles whilst drivng, every Cypriot does this and very dangerous but the law has not stopped this happening. I left UK because it became big brother just hope to god it is not going the same way out here otherwise me thinks its time to leave.

It's a "ban what you dislike" society now. No freedom to choose.

It's also one of many reasons I came here.
