Yes it is clever to ask soccer stars ridiculous wages and then ask for some back to keep the club functioning. But then the Glaziers are known for their audacity

What I think is even cleverer, is to buy the shares of a football club with money from someone else (the bank) and use the club's assets as collateral. So they have no money outlay............. and no risk. (The bank has both, but charges a hefty amount of interest, which keeps it happy.)

In other words you don't pay out any money of your own to buy a soccer club. The cost of the money borrowed, the loan is financed by the company. So all the interest on the loan is paid for by the Club. Good isn't it.

A problem arises when the income cannot adequately meet the operating costs, essentialy because of the high interest costs.......... pigeons coming home to roost at Old Trafford comes to mind.

Last weeks bond issue by united is said to have raised around £500 million. That looks good at first sight. But it was also reported last week that the Glaziers plan to pay the ' Directors ' £600 million next year as dividends and bonuses. That does not leave Sir Alex with an awful lot to spend in the transfer window.

Geoff , couldn't agree with you more.

The Glaziers look to be continuing to squeeze money from Man Utd. at every opportunity. Once the revenue stream has abaited I suspect they will move on to some other unsuspecting victim.

The losers will be the supporters, I fear...............
