I think you will all agree that Cyprus44 is part of our lives and we missed it so much. The Greek Cypriots brought it down just after the ECJ decision was announced and again just after the Court of Appeal read its verdict. It is obvious that the Greek Cypriots are doing their utmost to keep especially the expats in the dark and avoid any discussion at such critical moments. They are playing a psychological game to wreak the greatest havoc and inflict the greatest stress. We should all fight back. I am sure Izzet, the owner of this site has spent quite a bit of money out of his pocket, well above his revenue from the adverts to install the necessarry gadgets to protect this site from such attacks. I am sure we are all greatful to him but I think it is time those of us who can help to do so either by small donations or even better by placing adverts here either personally or get our friends to do so. Any comments please? ismet

My view is that this site should be free to all but we should find a way to make a small contribution. I think we should have some guidance from Izzet on this. May be we should be able to send a blank message by mobile and thus a fixed sum donated automatically. I don't know much about these things, it is up to Izzet to arange something suitable. ismet

From what I know of the situation with Cyprus44, I believe that we need to always keep one step ahead of the people that want to see this vibrant site shut down. Cyprus44 has become a community site and it is the members that have not only made this board strong but more importantly have contributed to various TRNC charities and other situations where other members have needed help. Members have made friends with other members and I hope that this board continues as it is. I am proud to be a member of this board. AJ

I agree, a donation via PayPal might be best as many sites have an link for that. Cyprus44 has helped NCFP get of the ground so I've personally got no problems with a donation. Plus perhaps we could all ask for our change at the supermarkets and we could give him the money some of us don't bother chasing up?

Maybe I'm being paranoid but is there somewhere that Isset could suggest where we could donate in cash - I'm sure we'dall be happy to do that

Hmmm. As much has been made of the fact that the advertisers who provide the revenue for this site are of paramount importance (when it comes to locking and deleting threads etc.) I think this could lead to trouble in the future. You might get members complaining 'they paid' and are entitled to their say. If anyone really wanted to help Izzet they could of course give him a donation in person out of their own pocket. Is this money so that better behind the scenes stuff can be purchased or what?

Dave - message 10. Very well said and I, for one, agree wholeheartedly with all that you say. We would be willing to do whatever is necessary. Oleander - message 13. I think you've raised a couple of very good points here. I look forward to reading what others think. Jean

"Is this website run at a loss?" Hector, It probably is now that funds have been injected to pay for very costly software to keep the forum running.

How about asking for contributions from businesses advertising for business, ie restaurants who post menus, turk bank posting insurance etc? If they obtain business because of their advertising then surely they could contribute. I accept restaurants get recommended, but when they themselves advertise directly, even on events pages a small contribution could be made, after all they are promoting themselves currently for free!

I'm sure that most of the regular users would be happy to give a donation, just to make sure it is safe, and kept running. I really missed it when it went down. Paypal works fine for me, but not everyone has paypal. It doesn't have to be compulsary, as in a membership, but those of use that want to, should give something. But how and where? Izzet will have to let us know how he would like it done. Stella
