We have some friends coming to stay in early August for a fortnight. Now normaly you get a 90day visa stamp. but his passport runs out in September. Does anyone think this will be a problem or would they just ammend the visa period accordingly. ?

They would probably just give him a 30 day stamp instead of a 90 day stamp. However, if it was me, I would just get a new passport before travelling to avoid any problems. Not worth the worry!

I thought your passport had to be valid for 6mths after you travel. Would suggest you check with the passport office.

Why doesn't he renew his passport before he comes out, he can apply in March and his new passport will be valid until Sept 2020. If he goes via the Post Office it only takes a few weeks - even when we applied for my daughter's last July.

Mike,

Your friend should have a passport valid for more than 3/4 months and in most cases 6 is considered to be the minimum. Some airlines will not let them board with less than 6 months validity and any necessary visa’s.

They can apply for a new passport now and they should have it in a few weeks.

They will find that they can ask for an extension on the new passport (I think it is up to 6 or 9 months) so they do not lose the benefit of the passport they already hold.

Your friend should also have travel & health insurance and if they had problems due to the short time left they would probably get no assistance from the insurance as the insurer would see the traveller as being remiss.

Just apply for a new passport. Any outstanding is added to the 10 years you get.

You will not be allowed in to TRNC without at least 3 and probably 6 months on current passport
