Hi I'm heading across to Cyprus next week and have been told by the people that look after my place that with the cost of tanker water it might be an idea to fit a roll down cover ( fixed frame type) to reduce pool water evaporation . To save me spending all my time running around looking for one can anyone tell me where I can source this type of cover? Thanks Jim.

Pretty sure the Desjoyaux agent (based under the old Woodys bar) can supply covers, certainly show them on their website

Brian Just received an e-mail from John mason of Cyprus Pool Heaters and he has quoted a special June price of £399 for a 10x5 pool cover. What he did say is that the majority of pools in NC are overflow pools against the more common skimmer type pools which these covers are designed for. However the solution is to drop the water level of your overflow pool when its out of use and this will prevent the wind lifting the cover off the pool. Jim.

Pilgrim Thats exactly what he said,I certainly think its worth investing in as it doesn't take very long to spend a couple of hundred quid on water tankers in the height of summer!!! Jim

Hi Jim We did this last year when the pool was filled - ours was an overflow pool cover and basically it is stretched across the pool and held in place with a series of clips and springs. It is good though as the clips are drilled into the surround terrace and they pull out (so you dont stub your toes !!) The whole thing then folds up and stores in the pump room. Pools R Us supplied and fitted it - but the price was eye watering over £1,000 However - in one entire year we have needed only 18 tons of water - so it clearly does prevent evaporation. It also keeps your pool really nice and clean, and the water cooler when you arrive in the summer. Hope that helps..

pilgrim wackyjim you both have me totally confused, you suggest reduce the pool level of an overflow pool, why? it is designed to overflow for best results!!. ( winter maybe) And why as we approach a hot summer do you want to "keep the heat in and increase the suns potential to warm the pool". Evaporation is natural and unavoidable if you want to take maximum advantage of your pool during the summer., By trying by covering your pool with a cover that is designed for a skimmer type will in my opinion cost you money.

Perry Thanks... sounds like a good idea having clips around the pool, but as you say £1000 Wow!!! thats scary for a cover, i can only hope that what i have been quoted for is up to the task? I suppose if you offset that money against water savings over a couple of years then it all begins to make some sense. Gottheyips Agree it does sound strange but apparently overflow pools still filter through the main drain when the water level drops below the overflow channel which surrounds it, what the main drain cant do so well on its own is remove surface debris such as leaves, flies etc ..as takes much longer to re-circulate. The cover works at reducing heat loss in cooler weather but also helps keep the water temp at a comfortable level in summer. Sorry but evaporation in pools is very much avoidable and is one of the biggest irritations to the TRNC government in times of drought ( like all the time!!) Don't be surprised if pool covers don't become a requirement before long. Jim.
