The Telsim office is almost opposite the Star Ling Market (lots of fruit and veg outside) on the main road through Girne. They are very helpful in there and will sort you out straight away. Two girls behind the desk but even if there is nobody else in the shop be sure to take a ticket from the machine or they will send you back - its the system!

If you know where Mr Pound is then the Telsim shop is only three shops away - stand in front of Mr Pound and looking into the window turn left and go past Comaks and the Tantuni then you are there!

Hi Looseboots their rates vary from around 29TL to around 70TL a month depending on how much you want. We bought the 3GB last march (if you buy 12 months you get a free dongle - I think that offer still stands) and are still using it despite having downloaded music and a few movies and I'm on line quite a few hours each day! We get really good reception way out in Tatlisu and even get great skype reception. Can you ty your neighbours dongle on your PC? We tried ours on a couple of friends in different areas before they went and bought. Well worth giving it a go. Can you let us know the current price list please if/when you do go in? Thanks

If you have one year 3GB price is 539.88TL modem /dongle free.

They do a 5GB for 1 month 64.99TL and 1 year 779.88TL again modem free if a year paid.

Hi LooseBoots at least they haven't put their prices up too much since this time last year. I'm pretty certain we paid 39TL for the 3GB and as I sid it's still goin strong! I wonder if they have a sweetener for those of us who already have the dongle???

Ha ha....how do you find the 3GB as we have another month with Nethouse and the speed ( and I am no techy ) is download speed 1024 kbps and upload 256 kps.......................no idea what that is.

Thede is a faster one....but....we don`t download much..no films................or music but watch filmon.com for BBC channels.

Thing with Nethouse is there is no limit on download (don`t think so anyway ) so not sure how we would manage plus we have 2 laptops so to use at same time presumeably would need 2 dongles unless there is a way of getting round that.....,

I have a 1 meg connection with Extend which is powerful enough for me to watch live bbc most of the time, how does a 5 gig dongle compare to that

The 3GB speed does vary when you're on line but I'm not up with it technically enoughto know if it's because of current "activity" from me! I have downloaded films and music and it is fairly speedy. I have to say it does seem faster than my neighbour who has Extend especially for downloading attachments to emails.

We have a desktop and a laptop but luckily both are very rarely in use at the same time as my husband is a complete techophobe and will only play patience or at a push check the daily mail! I think you would have 2 have 2 dongles.

I think the 5GB dongle is equivalent to the unlimited Extend but again I'm really not sure. I could probably ask a neighbour as we do have a few anoraks around the estate but I fear I would expire from boredom before the explanation was complete so if anyone else out there could help........................................

3GB and 5GB services from telsim refer to download limits per month , not the the 'speed' of the service.

That is they have a limit on how much data per month you are allowed to download, regardless of how fast you download them.

The potential speed of both 3GB and 5GB services is the same. The difference between them is the total montly download 'allowance'.

The actual speed you recieve on either service at any give time from any given location to any given 'source' is variable on many many factors.

jUST toconfirm that I think Telsim is great. I got a 1GB as a backup because mybroadband keeps losing the connection. I do a lot of e mails etc, etc but not too much internet downloading, and I am amazed that the 1GB is terrific. It means I can use it up a mountain or down on the beach (kinda!), and it is always connected. For 25TL a month, I certainly cannot grumble. Can';t afford to buy anything more, as my superonline has months to go, but maybe then I will go for the annual one, but as I had to buy the dongle, there is probably no need. Never dowload music, or films, but my comptuer is for communication!

Hope you get what you want and are happy withit.

Does anyone know if the minimum you can have with Turkcell is 3GB per month at 60TL or do they do 1GB for a smaller fee.

Cooper, do you know anyone who has a Telsim dongle? Get them to try it in your PC first to see if it works. If it works way out here in Tatlisu I would think it would work in Alsancak, but who knows the weird and wonderful ways of equipment here

MarieB, couldn't agree more. The great thing about Telsim is that it just carries on working even when Extend goes down because of wind/ rain/ sun!!! No interruption of service, got to be good news.

Cooper re your message 13 I have just been into Turkcell today to renew my 12 monthly subscription. The 60TL per month is for 4GB or it is 720TL for 1 year including a free GEZZ dongle thingy. They also do 10GB which is 1020TL for 12 months (sorry don't know how much it is per month). I think these are the only two options.

Does it work in Alsancak. Yes it does! I live above Alsancak, and have used my dongle here and there (sounds like an invitation for a rude comment from someone - so refrain!). It really is totally reliable (Message 15), but if you are not sure, Iwould be happy to call round and we can try mine. That is if you provide the coffee!!!!

Just been in today and renewed mine for a further month.

Incidentally, the 1gb is the same price as U.K (O.K. in U.K you get more gigs, but I find here as good as U.K - I have one for over there too)

Thanks Marie, thats very kind of you. we wont use it very often so didn't really want to get the Turkcell one because of the extra expence.

We are over at the end of this month so would it be ok to contact you once we arrive so we could just try it before we go ahead a buy one.

Racoonchic, we had a turkcell dongle and it was so useless we gave it away to our computer buff friend! Even he couldn't get it to work well out here. I think it does depend on your area though.

It all depends on the masts adjacent to you and the number of people operating off those masts

so if there is an obstruction you wont get any use or if the University with 1000's of Facebooking students you'll be slow

We had problems in the UK there was a fault on the 2 masts we could use and it kept cutting the calls off on one 3g phone provider till they fixed it and it is still funny in a couple of parts of the house
