Walkerscott, you only have to log-in to post, you can read threads without logging-in however, profiles can only be seen after log-in and after a certain amount of posts. Vicki

Just confirming what I understood. /Anyone, anywhere in the world may access the site and read it, but cannot contribute unless a signed up member. Same applies to all other forums, and newspapers etc on which one may comment. Also, there is a choice as to whether you submit a photo or not (although I think that the Administrators wanted everyone to put on a photo. But I could alwaqys have put one of King Kong - but that would make me too good looking. Guess if you are unhappy 'Walkerscott' take your photo off. But is it really of you?

i really did not realise that it was public! I have now hidden my email and will ask Izzet to delete my picture. Yes Marie it was real I accessed the forum a few times through google showing members who were currently logged on and saw there details ... surely this shouldn't have happened? Anyway, it was a shock - silly me not to have realised. People can accumulate so much information from this being open, about most people who post on here!

i have asked Izzet to delete my pic! I also informed him that i had managed through google to get into the forum and see who was currently online and that i had access to their private details. This i managed a few times. In tried again a few minutes ago and the page asked me to log in - so there may be a glitch in the site software.

What a shame not to be able to see your 'erudite' face again, but appreciate your feelings. However, what do you fear?> I am sure also there was a glitch, because you should not be able to access personal details unless a signed up member. Perhaps you could put a picture of Mickey Mouse or Pluto on, just to add a bit of colour? Just keep contributing! go well

ı Think there is nothing wrong with this form, because we are already chating with people that we don't know , so all those people are able to see your personal comments. Also under form rules it explains everything so there is no data infringement. thanks

maria B incorrect you are no longer allowed avatars - there was a few members actually banned because of the fuss they made about not being able to have them and indeed having their existing turlte, hippo or dog removed. So it is indeed a photo of 'a person' or nothing.

I know what you mean WaltetScott but this is the internet and in general if you have nothing serious to hide there is nothing to worry about but it is something to ponder before joining INTERNET chat sites etc. If you apply for a job for example the employers may look up your details on the internet and take note of comments made on some site. IN the UK the CIS has you covered everywhere and all your movements are tracked if required..it's the Big Brother world today. It's OK for now but when the Ponzi economies start to collapse and law and order begins to break down all these instruments will be used to control and subjugate.

It is a matter of seconds to make a forum visible to members only. There are many members-only fora on the web. Izzet could do it if he wanted to, but, of course, he doesn't want to. It's been said before, this is a commercial site. Izzet wants as many visitors as possible, so he can quote statistics to his advertisers. And, of course, that's why you're not allowed to resign. He can go to advertisers and say to them, "look how many members we've got. See how the membership increases month on month." As a start, for security reasons, he should at least make members profiles unavailable to anybody who is not an admin, although that won't stop people looking at archived web pages.

This is the message you get when trying to access member details when not logged-in. You must be a member and logged in, to see member profiles. I tried it before I logged-in, although this does not stop someone logging-in and then copy and pasting our profiles. Vicki

Thanks for the pointing out that we cannot have avatars. Doesn't bother me, though. But I agree with Geoff. Surely there is nothing stopping GC's becoming members, especially if they are in U.K. And of course, that gives us all an opportunity to have proper dialogue with them. It also means as members they can access our details, so the moral of the story is - don't reveal what you don't want people to know!

Some GC's have joined, some are nice and some turn hostile very quickly, usually easy to spot. And don't forget you have to have a number of posts before you can veiw a members profile. Vicki

I read somewhere that you should never post anything on a message board that you wouldn't be happy to see on the front page of a newspaper! Some websites do require login to be able to read as well as post to them. Walkerscott - even if you felt so strongly about this that you decided to leave - you cannot! Keeps the membership numbers looking healthily inflated when anyone who ever joined up - even if they never posted - is on the member list. This is good for advertising revenue purposes but does not paint a true picture. You can even still read past posts and threads on the site at the times when it is 'down'. If you use Google Cache.
