1 Can you get cremated in the TRNC ? I presume that would be cheaper than repatriating a body

2.Do you need residency to be buried in the TRNC

2.a How much is a TRNC Funeral /Cremation

3. Can you take "Ashes"/remains in the cabin in container going to TRNC or coming back to UK (prevention of terrorism act do you need to be broken down int 100ml containers

Well you would not want to leave a loved one in the lost luggage @LHR ERC IST STA etc

They might seem frivolous questions but as people get older insurance becomes impossible as we live longer

I am interest to know the answers or any other ideas on the subject

Robert

1 I dont think so

2 Ask the British Cemetary Committee - I suspect not a] No idea

3 It will depend on the airline and also probably on dcoumentation being present but I suspect most airlines would want the remains of your loved one to be in hold baggage

With regard to insurance - please be more defined is this health, travel, funeral or what that you are asking about?

On the travel insurance front if you are 89 with a stent and new heart valve and the others leaking brittle bones etc you're not going to get insured so what's the cheapest way of dealing with the problem of deth in a foreign country

we sadly brought our daughters ashes back last march, you have to have all relavent papers to do this, and she was brought back( as they say) as hand laugage. all paperwork should be done by the funeral people.

We bought our beloved labradors ashes back from Istanbul (T.A) in a container in my hand luggage - I wouldn't have let them go in the hold. We didn't even think about the need for paperwork, no problems though.

We brought my mother's ashes back to TRNC in 1999, she died in UK but wanted her ashes to go in my father's grave in the British cemetery in Kyrenia.

The BRS funeral committee made all the arrangements in TRNC and the UK funeral director provided the necesary paperwork. The casket containing Mum's ashes accompanied us in the aircraft cabin as hand luggage. I dont remember having to inform the airline (Turkish)

I think the charge made by the funeral committee was about £250 (in 1999)

Nurse

2000 ytl seems better than £2000 plus in the uk

Just leaves the cost of shipping a body back any ideas how much that costs

By the way I'm not being ghoulish just being prepared if I die in the TRNC i don,t mind staying where as my mother wants to go back to be with my father wife is undecided what she wants in the UK let alone TRNC

Hi All,

I have just spoken with the Airport Search Unit Duty Manager at Dublin Airport. He states that relatives carrying ashes on flights is an everyday occurance.

You will need to declare the ashes to the security search personnel and they usually have a discrete way of passing the ashes through for carriage onboard as 'hand luggage'.

Different airports will have different systems but by and large carrying ashes is NOT a problem.

Wanderer,

If someone dies abroad (UK Citizen) and has to be taken back to the UK it is a very costly process as you need a lead lined coffin plus freight costs and all documentation has to be translated into English.

The cost of repatriation, including all paperwork, to a UK airport is £2,400

Nurse

That's why I was asking the question now I don't want to join the deceased by dying through shock

Ceg

that doesn't sound to bad in view of what nurse has said but does it cover the touch down in Turkey

Could not go back via the darks side they would probably accuse the corpse of cigarette smuggling or trespass

There are no crematoriums in Northern Cyprus but there will be one built in South Cyprus this year but I do not know if it will be permitted for those who die in the North to use the facilities
