I renewed my monthly 3g internet and recieved a message saying i was being fined BY Turkcel for using Skype. Has anyone else been fined for using Skype?. Does anyone know if Telsim charges for using Skype, I'm getting fed up with Turkcel, increasing charges and not keeping to original contact for unlimited internet access. Anyone else 'fined' reply and let me know, cheers

Hi, i have just started using Skype, I made 2 calls to UK, One call lasted 6 minutes, The 2nd lasted 15 minutes. I have been fined 5.10 tl, i know thats not a lot of cash, but i cant see why Turkcel have the right to charge, i feel that as my original contract stated unlimited access for 70 tl per month which was revised and re priced by Turkcel a few months into my contract they are making enough cash from their internet without charging for using Skype. ps the message of your fine comes in Turkish

I would ditch their 3G offering at your earliest convenience! Outrageous invasion of your privacy. None of their business if you use Skype.

Beyond my comprehension however, I'm in Oz with my brother who was instrumental in G3 setup Worldwide and said the follow:- Skype uses sip not http for linking and feels, though technically possible, would be near on impossible to monitor. Clear as mud? I'm non the wiser! Richard

This is copy of theit message,; 3G Mobil Internet paketinizi sadece KKTC sinirlari icerisinde kullanabilirsiniz. Yurtdisindaki kullanimlariniz MB basina 4.10 TL olarak ucretlendirilir. I presume it is due to using Skype as that is the only 'new' thing I have done. (PS fine 4.10 my mistake) even so for 2 calls it is unreasonable

Can I just say that I kept getting messages in turkish and members of this forum very kindly translated all of them for me the I had to ring Turkcell, which you can do for free from your mobile if you have Turkcell, and I spoke to a very helpful young lady who changed the language settings and my messages then came through in English. Might be worth a call on 444 0 533

3G Mobil Internet paketinizi sadece KKTC sinirlari icerisinde kullanabilirsiniz. Yurtdisindaki kullanimlariniz MB basina 4.10 TL olarak ucretlendirilir. There's no fine there. It's just a message stating that your monthly package only allows for use within the borders of the TRNC and any use abroad will be charged at 4.10TL/MB. You haven't been charged that, it's only informing you of the charge if you happen to use the 3G service while abroad.

It translates as: "3G Mobile Internet package within your boundaries you can use only the TRNC. Abroad as kullanimlariniz £ 4:10 per MB ucretlendirilir." No idea what it means

3G Mobil Internet paketinizi sadece KKTC sinirlari icerisinde kullanabilirsiniz. Yurtdisindaki kullanimlariniz MB basina 4.10 TL olarak ucretlendirilir. You can use your 3g monthly internet packet only in the TRNC. If you wish to use it abroad, the cost is 4.10 TL per MB. Skype users dont worry, their is no charge for using skype, just eats into your GB. So if you use skype frequently 4GB might not be anough to last 1 month. hope this helps

In reply to message 19, i didn't presume i was being ripped off, my partner is Turkish, he asked Turkcel in Turkish, they informed him it was for using abroad services. Only one we have used is Skype. So therefore we are still confused. Also Turkcel have reneigned on all original promises to supply unlimited internet for 70tl per month. And if your modem breaks they will not replace it either despite contract which sais it does. I am unhappy with Turkcel's broken promises and feel if they are charging for Skype use I will look for a new provider. Have a nice day to everyone

Helper, So it turns out there is no fine just a charge for using the 3G when visiting countries outside the TRNC. This is quite normal for all mobile companies' offerings. When outyside the TRNC you will after all be roaming on another network and so Turkcell have to settle the costs of that with the other network and pass the charge on to you. 4.1 TL per Meg... you have to decide if it's worth it. How much does a basic (no video) Skype call use per minute? Hopefully not much. http://www.hellkom.co.za/skype-bandwidth-usage/
