This will be interesting, we have sourced everywhere, seems it doesn't exist for TRNC. We did get an annual one last year from FMA /IPH but they don't do it now and ours is now needing renewing. If you get it in the UK you have to be a resident. x

mess 1/2 - only prob is that if you have a serious problem and they find out that you were in the TRNC when the policy was incepted - they may give you the "Cypriot shrug" before telling you to feck off....

I just checked that Nomad travel insurance - an annual policy was $1265 for a single person, aged 27 for 12 months. Thats crazy!! lol I went to get travel insurance once at one of the local Sigorta places along the high street, for 1 months cover - just to cover UK and back, without medical protection was €50 for a single person, aged 27. I checked some of the travel insurance companies in the UK to see how much theirs was the other way, e.g. UK to Cyprus back to UK and it was only £9.00 for my trip including medical cover. However they said that in order for the policy to be valid, i had to have proof of a return trip originating from the UK and returning back to the UK. So i was stumped and gave up and took my chances. If anyone finds some travel insurance worth buying please let me know.

We got travel insurance through Steve Dickinson when we went to Jamaica a few years ago. The cover was for a month but I cannot remember how much it cost.

Try travel agents. I know Ankara Travel near Dome sell insurance on behalf o one of the local companies. Cannot remember which but I have seen the adverts for the major companies and they all offer travel cover.

Msg 11 , yes that is correct , but with certain amex cards like the platinum card , it covers you full stop , and you don't have to use your amex to pay . Also you don't have to pay car rental insurance or waver . Simbas

Thanks for the response. Extrasure - I had already checked with this company and they want almost £70 for a 3 week travel for one person over the age of 70 who has no medical conditions. Worldnomads - only cover up to the age of 66yrs Credit Card - I have Barclaycard so will now check to see if they have any insurance! I don't have amex. With regards to buying insurance with a registered UK address - I am concerned about this because whilst we can supply a UK residence address we will not be actually traveling from UK and therefore will not be covered for part of the journey. Will check out the insurance from the travel agents - thanks. Will probably end up contacting Steve Dickinson as well - thank you Jo. I have contacted a couple of UK insurance companies via email and am waiting for their responses and will post them on here should I receive any further information.

Cyprusquest, I have been in touch with a couple of UK companies but can only get insurance from UK only. I have looked at Tom's site and like many other companies I cannot get insurance for an 'over 70yr old' traveling from TRNC at a sensible price however I can get good rates (and cover) from the UK to Europe so maybe part of our journey (for one of us) will have to be insurance - less. Extrasure is one company I have been in contact with as they operate via the BRS but as I mentioned earlier the cost is almost £70 Thank you for your suggestion.

Okay, I thought I would bring this back up and let you know how we faired as it appeared many of you were also having the same trouble as we were getting covered, for a reasonable price, to travel from the TRNC. I checked out ALL the suggestions above with the exception of amex, as I don’t have a card but I did look at Barclaycard as I have one of these but it was sooooo expensive I needed a mortgage to cover the premium! The main problem was ‘age’, many of the insurance companies stop at 64yrs to 66yrs, we did look into buying the insurance as though we were traveling from UK to here and then onto our destination, finishing back in the UK. This would mean that we would be buying insurance for a trip from UK to here at the beginning and a trip from here to UK at the end (hope that made sense) that we would not use but we were concerned as NN suggested that should we need to claim, they may find an excuse not to pay up!

The result was ..... extrasure.co.uk . It is expensive as in £70 for a 3 week cover for one of us and only £26 for the other and this was all down to age and not health issues. This does cover from leaving the TRNC and all Europe and back again.

Sue - I did suggest that you try me ansd I would then pass you to one of the companies who say they may be able to help you. It would be in confidence as always so do not worry. I don't think I have heard from you so if tyou could email me I might be able to assist. Tom info@flightholiday.co.uk By the way extrasure is good for covcer of all ages etc. (which is why we sell them) but does not issue to residents outside the EU.

Hi Tom, I did email and you did respond to me and passed my details onto one of your companies who I spoke to on a few occasions but in the end they came back and said they cannot cover us from the TRNC. So if it's not age, it seems getting cover from the TRNC is extremely difficult hence why we ended up with extrasure.

Oops, I forgot to say that Extrasure do cover from the TRNC as they class this as Cyprus. I have confirmed this and it also an insurance company that the BRS suggest would be traveller's contact due to them covering you from the TRNC, which in itself seems a rare thing.

The UK address is red herring, if you go down the route of getting travel insurance from the UK and your journey starts in the TRNC and you have to make a claim the insurance company will almost certainly want to see evidence that your journey started in the UK this evidence would take the format of flight tickets

Malcolm msg 29 I have replied to you. Our insurer is reputable and they have checked with their underwriters and they can place the insurance for you with your address in Cyprus (even though it is in the TRNC). Yours will be one of the test enquiries to make sure that there is no hiccup (sorry). Tom IAH Ltd info@flightholiday.co.uk
