This is not a cry from another newer charity stall, but actually from the ones who started it all - Dot and Helen.

Thanks to the generosity of donors and purchasers, they have raised £3000 for Karsiyaka School, another £1000 for Lapta nurses and now another £1000 towards their latest project - the homeless couple in Karsiayaka. They need £10,000!

Theyhave a stall at Cafe Park, Karsiyaka from 10a.m. on 2nd March, after which they are back at Lambousa selling anything they can get (no sec\ond hand husb ands!). So,l if you have any bric a brac, good clothing (ish!), books, DVD's Videos etc, etc, etc, they would love to have it, so that they can sell it . You know what they say 'There is a buyer for everything somewhere.

Yes , we all know there are loads of wonderful hearted folk out there who raise (and give) but Dot and Helen were the first and the only ones trying to help Ayse and Ali Kemal. Of course, a

Marie B,

Before I get lots of calls can I just clarify that the 'Lapta Nurses' were not anything to do with the TRNC Healthcare volunteers, most of whom do come from the Lapta area.

Also the 'homeless couple' can we have more info on this please.

Sorry Nurse Awful if I appeared to give wrong info. I meant the Nurses who are at Lapta and work for the municipality etc etc.

As to the homeless couple, they are from Karsiyaka (just shows you don't read my paper - but I forgive you - cos Idid a write up). Their home was declared uninhabitable after the first deluge last year, and Ayse is handicapped and can hardly walk. Her husband is her carer and they live on disability allowance. They have no children, but they have no m oney. Dot and Helen want to get a pre fab for them costing £10,000. They have tried all the gov offices but so far no luck. They were to be given some money but it all went (quite rightly) to the Guzelyurt flood victims. At the moment the couple are living in a small conrete 'shed' with outside toilet and with all the wet weathe,r poor Ayse keeps falling over. Their furniture is stored in a three sided shed elsewhere. They do have three quarters of a donum, so there is room for the new home and locals ha

....... locals have offered practical help - one builder will do the concrete base for nothing; another will help out with machinery, JCB etc, but the cheapest home is one of these prefabs. Dot and Helen are tyring every possible avenue for money, as that is the only thing theyneed, but in order to do that they need stuff to sell. ~Also their stall on the 2nd at Karsiyaka is aimed to help locals to buy stuff dirt cheap as well - so it is a two fold good thing.

If you want I can send a copy of the article and a photo of Ayse, as it gives a fuller picture.

This really is a need that can only be met by the loving hearts of caring folk. I did offer to go round the island on a donkey collect 1tl from everyone, but no one was prepared to loan me a donkey!!!!

A very worthy cause and i will try to help where i can. However, it does beg the question, why is the government/system not helping out these poor people ??

Sorry not replied to these points before. Been out having fun all day!!!!

To Fiendishpaul - couldn't agree more, and Dot and Helen have tried, but it is the usual 'thinking about it' and phone calls not returned. One of the problems is that these people are Turkish and not TC - but they are Cypriot by virtue of living here (been here for a very long time)

To Daisy Dukes. Tellme where you are and I will collect on behalf of Dot and Helen! And thanks in advance - great stuff.

To NurseAwful - you are not the first to think of that, but Dot and Helen have asked other charities, rotarians, masons etc, etc and NOTHING. So, as obviously their funds are tied up, it is down to others. I agree £10,000 is nothing when you have pots, and I am sure that any one of us winning the Lotto would give it, but so far, none of us have.

To Lilli - I will collect the books from you and give them to Dot and Helen.

COME ON FOLKS AS THEY SAY THERE IS A BUYER FOR EVERYTHING SOMEWHERE. So let

...... Dot and Helen have your 'anything' which they can sell as 'something' to 'someone'.

Of course, any donations of money from wealthy folk are more than welcome. The house could even be named after them. It would be ncie to have 'Nadir's Lodge' over the door, but it looks more as if it might be 'Heldot's instead.

Thanks in advance from Dot and Helen for ANYTHING - no matter how small, and then turn up on 2nd March at Cafe Park , Karsiyaka to buy a bargain, have a cuppa and meet nice kind folk such as yourselves.

Chris, my old darling. I do apologise, but his name is "Asil Nadir" and not "Nasil Adir" - that sounds like some sort of nasal hair remover Please don't take offence - as none was intended.

A bit off subject, but would you mind if I e-mailed you regarding your "little family" - remember last year with the clothes? I'd like to do the same again, if this is OK with you?

Love

Jean

Jeannie,

I humbly apologise must have been another blonde moment or maybe dementia finally setting in. ASIL NADIR got it correct now.

That would be brilliant if you could e-mail me, the 'little family' which is now bigger by one and the house looks smaller by the minute! The little girls faces when they see my car is a picture as they know that someone has a pressie for them and the clothes you brought over last year I actually saw the kids wearing when I passed, so it was appreciated.
