Coming out in 4 weeks and want to set up a tv supplier so we can watch the Football World Cup in June. Dont want to go down the 4 metre dish option. BBC and ITV are sharing the games. Can anyone recommend a set up please. Will I get all games if I buy Dopi? Is Dopi worth installing as there have been problems or are they sorted now. Any help will be gratefully received.

Dear Gallowgate If you have SKY installed with a 1.8m dish and you will get ITV and BBC interactive where you can watch the games

For the umptieth time: check out Slingbox (in the UK: you pay once 150 pounds), Slingplayer (free) on your computer (you can watch almost any UK channel), Slingcatcher (you pay once: 60 US Dollars) in your room (to connect your computer signal to your TV set) if you want to watch UK TV. I really don't understand all this talk again and again and again about Dopi TV, Digi Turk, 4.2 dishes, Arab channels etc. We enjoy the technical possibilities via the Internet daily!

Hi mmmmmm If the BBc games are definately on interactive I will go down the 1.8 dish route. I'm just worried that they will not all be on. Dont know if Sky Sports are showing the world cup as the schedules are not out yet. I have sky multiroom with the full package in the UK so can bring a box over and have a 1.8 dish installed but wanted to make sure I can get as many games as possible.

re msg 5 BBC Coverage : http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/results_and_fixtures/calendar/7802169.stm So I CAN guarantee that with a sub box and a 1.8m installed by Iceman that you'll get the BBC interactive / ITV 1 If a game is on ITV2-4 you won't see it with a 1.8m :( As soon as I know... I'll post .. I may have an alternative fully legal alternative by then ;)

Gallowgate, Dopi is fine, you will get all the games on it and its a good system, no games are on sky,All BBC 1/2 and ITV 1 so would need a 4m+ dish as only highlights will be on interactive. Through dopi they will be on JSC sports. But to watch the world cup games no where better than a bar!!

Hans slingbox, as I understand it, is hardware that 'location shifts' TV (or other input). For all this to work the slingbox has to located in the UK, has to be powerd on, attached to a source of content (like free to air channels or a sky subscription, also powered on) and needs to also be attached to a good consistent UK internet connection with decent upstream bandwidth. Your north Cyprus internet connection also needs to be good and consistent with necessary downstream bandwidth. If I had property in both locations, living in the UK sometime and North Cyprus sometime, was already paying for content in the UK and for a UK internet connection, as well as one in Cyprus then Slingbox is something I would look at. However with no 'location' in the UK, no UK internet connection and no existing subscriptions in the UK to TV content and living only in the North it does not seem to me a vaible means of watching UK TV in Cyprus.

Re Msg 14: Well Slingbox is fine if, as you say, you have a property (or use of one) there. I do not so I have a SKY dish here with a sub taken out at a UK address etc. I am also a radio engineer, and after much investigation over 7 years in Cyprus I concluded as per my earlier msg that th only viable (your word not mine!) solutions to get the main channels you probably want is SKY or Slingbox. There may be other sytems around such as Slingbox. All these are quite expensive - no chep or freebie way I am afraid! Geoff Famagusta City.

Re msg 11. Camil I have heard good and bad reports on Dopi. Are you getting a steady signal or does it scramble a lot? Must say is 6ms comes up with another alternative I would be very interested.

Geoff for me a VPN service and limiting myself to content available via things like BBC iplayer is a 'cheap' solution, given I would be paying for my internet connection here regardless. Its not perfect but its good enough for me. There is more than enough content for via such a route and if streaming breaks down because my net connection is having a bad period I can just download overnight instead. In fact the VPN service pays for itself not just for TV content but in all sorts of other uses, from things like spotify to downloading legal copies of games online from services like steam to avoiding 'complications' in ordering things online when my location does not match that of my credit/debit card. Of course there is no one solution that fits all but for me using a VPN service works well enough, is cheaper than didgiturk used to be when I had that, gives me more content that I want when I want it and a some useful side benefits as well.

Re Msg 17: Well if you are happy that is all that really matters. That system is not good enough for me personally. But the bottom line of this thread is to give the originatoranswers to his question - which I think we have all done collectively. Cheers, Geoff
