msg1;

You do not have to pay the import tax straight away if you are going to live here.Instead,you can get years permit(every 6 months)to keep your car on the island with it existing plates.If you decide to take that option,please make sure you have years road tax as it is valid here,also as road tax is great deal more expensive here.

In my opinion,I think mercedes is one of very few cars that are worth bringing over for.Also,import tax on european cars are alot less then the Japs,dont count me on it but around half.

to all;

I have posted this before

Anyone(TCs included) that has spent less then 365 days on the island in the last 2 years is classed as VISITORS.

That allows you to import your car(for example) and not have to pay duties straight away.So ,get your permit,drive around for 13 months(inc.first 30 days permit that you get) and then tax it,which by then the car would lose some of its value and since the tax is calculated based on the value of the vehicle...

Well......NEED I SAY MORE.

dcs1698 - it depends on the engine size.

Upto 1650cc the price stabilisation fund is $2.02 per cc, 1650-2250cc it is $2.52, 2250-3000cc it is $4.02 per cc, over 3000cc it is $5.02 per cc.

Calculation can be as follows:

Multiply the engine cc size by price stabilisation fund factor such as US$2.52 (e.g. 2000cc gives $5040)

Add 10% additional price stabilisation fund, then 11% for military fund, dock expense and stoppage. Then convert it to £.

(e.g. $5040 becomes $6154 which = £3996)

If the current value according to Glasses guide is £20000 then add VAT at 20% of this, i.e. £4000.

This gives a total of £7996.
