The petrol station was due to close soon (end of April I'm told) due to high rent being charged by landlord. A new one is apparently under construction on the main road just before Esentepe.

Groucho Sorry but your post is incorrect, the petrol station was NOT about to close, the lease had been put out to tender and AN other won the tender , it was to change hands then NOT close. There is enough incorrect information going around without you contributing ! Sorry A

Well I'm really glad everyone is OK,especially Bayram,he really is one of the nicest blokes I have ever met, every year he tells me go go down to his orchard and help myself to as many apricots as I want,I do a bit of home brew and give him a few bottles of hooch back.

Lazy Days. Thing is, if a new petrol station is opening at the bottom of the road, what does that foretell as far as the future of the one in the village is concerned? Bayram being outbid for the tender is in actuality the same as the rent being too high, as it's a price he wasn't willing or prepared to pay.

Groucho, If is a very big word, in fact it is said to be the biggest in parliament , in actuality, you know, in reality nothing, Your post was wrong so dont try to squirm out of it now, your words, it was due to CLOSE SOON due to high rent being charged by landlord (being the village co-operative) this is not true, maybe Bayram was not prepared to pay more but others were, there is not even a licence application before the government for a new petrol station as yet and as we all know that takes time.

Lazy days,a licence application was put before the government by Carringtons for a new petrol station, them to build it and Bayram to run it but it was rejected.

I'm not trying to squirm out of anything I think you are taking it all a bit personally... In fact, just like you did over the Health Centre when all I was trying to do was get people to go along and support the initiative. You took exception to my saying that as Paul & Marilyn couldn't be there, those who new how much they had helped to raise (which was more than most) should attend if they could. To which you vented your spleen in a very uncharitable way. You seem very bitter? Why? Has somebody damaged you? Anyway, I won't be buying petrol from the new lot. I think the way Bayram is being ousted is a bit rich. He's an institution. Putting his livelihood up for tender seems harsh treatment of such a nice man - and to what end?

Groucho I prefer peeps who stick to facts and dont always keep putting slants on things, peeps being nice to others is fine in everyones book, but peeps not telling it like it is, is hypocritical, 2 faced and yes you are so right i dont like that but theres plenty of it going about. You like Bayram as I, and many others do, but you dont really know what goes on in the village and for me your final sentence stinks, YOU HAVE PRE JUDGED THEM ALREADY, so much for an intelligent person, you know absolutely nothing about it except maybe the pub gossip IMHO. LOL A

"Putting his livelihood up for tender seems harsh treatment of such a nice man - and to what end?" Was my last sentence.. what stinks about it? As for the new lot, I've got nothing against them other than they saw fit to tender for somebody else's livelihood a business built up over many years. That's why I won't be buying fuel from them... just as I wouldn't put cash in the hand of anyone who took a friend's livelihood away. As for your last paragraph, well I don't indulge in pub gossip... I don't frequent pubs or bars as a habit. Please don't shout and don't assume for yourself the mantle of a humble opinion, because you seem anything but humble in your criticism of others. You are ready to pounce on anyone who puts forward an opinion about Esentepe village that does not meet your approval. I repeated only what I was told. OK it was wrong in part and factually incorrect in part. Fact remains Bayram is to lose his petrol station.

This threads demonstrates the petty squabbling and incestousness of ex-pat communities. Is it any wonder so many of the Cypriots have no time for us?

"This threads demonstrates the petty squabbling and incestousness of ex-pat communities." Care to explain who you are accusing of incest? I'm not quite sure what you are suggesting Oleander..... as for the Cypriots having no time for us, we have found quite the opposite.

Come on guys, i understand that three people were injured in the explosion.Surely their welfare is more important and what the thread was supposed to be about in the first place, and not petty squabbling amongst members, which is what this topic has turned in to.If incest has now become the topic then please start another post, Paul.

Paul, I think you'll find nothing I've posted could be regarded as uncharitable or insensitive to the plight of those injured. Just the opposite and that's what seems to have drawn adverse criticism from a certain member. I certainly never initiated the subject of incest... As I'm a guy and Oleander and Lazy Days are not? Odd that you should aim your rebuke at me....

Paul your confusion is my fault I didn't notice that Eileen had logged me out and her in until I'd posted the message... which was from me not Eileen... but I'm still confused as to why it's the guys who should be mending their ways when I don't believe I've been instrumental in causing this daft spat. I do notice that Lazy Days has sent no goodwill message to Bayram in the thread dedicated for this purpose.

Hubby went up to see Bayram tonight at his home to wish him well from all of us and dropped of a small get-well gift....and reports that he has a badly burned left hand wrapped in an enormous surgical dressing, and his face has been pretty well cooked, looks like an acute case of sunburn, red, brown and a bit scaly. They agreed he could pass for a newly arrived Ex-Pat!... In himself he is well and thankful to be alive. Kind Regards Diana

Update on the new Esentepe petrol station... Construction well under way with footing for the pumps in and the main building taking shape... It's on the RHS just before the Esentepe turning heading east. Has anyone got an update on Bayram's progress?
