Hi All

Myself and 2 volunteers from the British High Commission are undertaking a 50km (31.25 miles) sponsored walk from Larnaca Airport to Nicosia on 27 Feb to raise money for Help for Heroes. This fantastic charity supports British troops who have been injured in Afghanistan and has been instrumental in turning around the lives of men and women from all the services. Details of just one of these brave individuals can be found at:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/.../royal-marine-soldier-mark-ormrod-back-at-post-after-taliban-blast-115875-20728488/

I haven't walked this far in one go since I completed my 30 miler during Royal Marines training in 1981 aged 17. At that time it took me just over 7 hours, this time we are giving ourselves 12 hours !! If you would like to sponsor me then please go to the following webpage

http://www.justgiving.com/the-BHC-Club-Nicosia

All donations, no matter how small will benefit those who need the support of this excellent charity. Many Thanks

Paul

Apologies but the link posted above for Royal Marine Mark Ormrod doesn't appear to be working. Please try the following:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-561039/Harry-reunited-injured-marine-called-real-hero-Afghanistan.html

If this doesn't work, then just Google 'Mark Ormrod' to learn more about this amazingly brave young man.

Regards

Paul

Come on show Paul some support and pledge some money, this is far more importantant than 'than who will win the championship' or 'where is a nice kebab shop'.

Can't believe this Paul !

They must all be too wraped up in talking bo****ks about football, or wondering how they can find cheap booze/food or telling each other how nice they all are to worry about lads like Mark Ormrod, just shows what a shallow bunch of ex-pats we live with.

Martin,

You don't have to post on this board to give a donation and if you want it to be anonymous why would you.

Answers on here are nice jestures but they don't raise money.

I hate to be the bearer of truth but most people I know want to be charitable but hate to be pressured into giving. You're comments are probably causing more negativety than anything else.

Martin

You obviously feel very strongly about this, as many people do, and those people will likely make a donation, in their own time, without you voicing your disgust that people haven't advertised what they are doing to help.

Martin,

Have you ever thought that people's financial circumstances might not allow them to sponsor Paul, so to call them shallow is a bit unfair! just my opinion.

Hi All

I think Martin (also an ex marine) is as passionate about this charity as I am.

I will just leave the post to run but will bring it back to the top every so often.

Chris - Thanks for the offer re my feet, but we have a physio on hand throughout the walk to soothe those aching muscles !! By the way, I have found that extra mobile if you want it.

Thanks all

Good luck on the walk and i hope you raise lots of dosh, however you might have raised more on this side of the 'border' if it had been from Ercan to Kyrenia. Alternatively carry on going past Nicosia to Girne.

Just a small tip for those possible aching feet if you choose to follow it.

Ibuprofen 400 or 600 beofre and after the walk. It's a painkiller and more importantly an anti-inflamatory so the swelling should be reduced slightly if the footware isn't perfect.

However a walk of this length would be really silly to try unless the shoes fit well.

Much respect to all for the effort even before you start, I would struggle to walk even half that distance.

msgs 5, 6 & 7: bigmarth, don't see you waving your wallet, just insulting those of us who don't need feel the need to advertise our sponsorship on here. Good look Paul, hope your "mate" hasn't harmed your cause too much.

Hi Tony

I am meeting BigMart on Wednesday at a gathering for ex RM's when he will make his donation. I am just sorting out some flood damage at the moment but will give you a bell and sort out an RV to pick up your donation later in the week.

Thanks again

Hi Spider

You can either donate via the just giving websit which can be found at message 1 or if you want to donate personally, drop me an e-mail and I will arrange to pick it up.

Hippo

Afraid that I was just a participant and did not organise the walk. Help 4 Heroes is the charity that the British High Commission will be supporting all year and it is intended to run a number of events in order to raise as much as possible. Will give my body a bit of time to recover then who knows, Ercan to Girne might be on the cards . Can't say I fancy the thought of yomping over the mountains though !!
