Morning all Hope you survived the floods! Anyway I was wondering if anyone owns their own horse in TRNC. If so, where do you keep it, how much does it cost for livery etc. I have been to Catalkoy and Tunac but I would prefer to have my own horse. Are there any other riding stables that you would recommend? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Hi nikegirl, there is a couple of livery's as you drive up the road to the Girne GAU. One is one the left hand side the other is one the right.

i don't think i've noticed them before jock. i'll need to investigate! the price of horses varies from £500 to £50,000! I think the average in TRNC would be about £2,500. Better mode of transport than a car in my opinion ;)

There is an excellent riding school in Catalkoy which used to be run by an ex mounted policewoman. I am not sure whether they do liveries. flossie

The same thought was galloping through my head the other day, how Id like my own horse, but no idea of the cost and have always had someone else prepare them for the ride. My grounds are big enough to build a stable, but then they are more of a tie than a dog if I went on holiday as I dont know of any livery stables.

To petsitter, if you are just planning on getting 1 horse, it is far kinder to put it in livery stables or at grass with some others, as it is very unkind to keep a horse on it's own . Keeping it in your back garden, however big, would not be fair on the horse. They are herd animals and need company. Sorry of that sounds like I'm preaching, I don't mean to, I just hate to see horses on their own.

sorry to be a misery but I am so against keeping horses out here unless you have a really proffessional set up like at Catalkoy riding club. There are just so many things a horse needs to kepe it healthy which are not available here. I kept horses in the Uk for more than 20 years but. much as I would like, would not do it here.

No problem rowan. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I have kept horses for a very long time in UK as well and I am fairly certain that the businesses that provide Catalkoy with their horse supplies are available to other customers as well!! Just because something isn't available in North Cyprus doesn't mean it can't be sourced from Istanbul or elsewhere.
