The French supermarket giant Carrefour is laying off 1700 employees in Belgium and closing down 17 shops there (for a start). Analysts call the future of this French consortium bleak. Other shops outside of France may be in danger of closure also. Nicosia, Cyprus..?

It has been well known that Carrefour was in trouble in its home country for over a year now. Until now it has been stated that the overseas arm of the company was OK financially. We shall just have to wait and see.

Has anyone ascertained if an earlier thread on the forum was correct in the assumption that Orphanides was closing down?
